They travel to Phoenix to take on a Suns team that slayed the dragon, knocking out the defending champions Los Angeles Lakers in six games. Which of these teams will be able to start this series off hot with a win? Let’s take a closer look.

Nuggets vs. Suns NBA Playoff Odds

Denver is 4-1 ATS in their past five games overall and it doesn’t seem like they are slowing down just yet. Despite playing without a number of key players in their first round, the players who were there stepped up. The Nuggets are just 8-10 SU and ATS this season when posted as a dog.

The Suns are 6-1 ATS in their last seven postseason games when coming into the matchup as the favorite. They are just 2-8 ATS in their last 10 when having three or more days’ rest, though.

Denver Nuggets

Many people didn’t have the Nuggets making it out of the first round without star point guard Jamal Murray yet they had a ton of role players step up. In the last two games of their first series, Monte Morris hit 10 of his last 21 three-point attempts and put up 50 points. Michael Porter Jr. also had a 22-point first quarter in one of the games. Combine that strong play out of their role players with the potential MVP of the league in Nikola Jokic and Denver has the makings of a very scrappy team.

While some analysts have already written off the Nuggets in this series, they will definitely not be an easy out. They are well coached, they are diverse and they have more playoff experience than the young Suns. That should come in handy.

Phoenix Suns

The Suns shocked a ton of people when they advanced past the Lakers in Round 1 and now they’re looking to carry that momentum into Game 1 of Round 2. Chris Paul and Devin Booker have been one of the best backcourts in the entire league this season and that was on display through the first round even though Paul was hobbled. At times, it looked like he wasn’t going to be able to continue but he finished the series strong and looks fine.

Center Deandre Ayton was able to make his mark on their series also by clamping up the paint and forcing their role players to hit jump shots instead. His matchup with Jokic will be key. Phoenix also has an outstanding bench crew that came through clutch a number of times this year. After getting by the Lakers, it’s unlikely this team – or young cast – feels intimidated by anything they see in Round 2.
