The Golden State Warriors cruised to a Game 1 blowout victory in their Western Conference Finals series against the Dallas Mavericks and they'll look to repeat that performance in Game 2 on Friday.
The first game of the Western Conference Finals was no contest as the Golden State Warriors trounced the Dallas Mavericks. The Warriors opened as 6.5-point home favourites on the NBA odds for Game 2 on Friday.
Mavericks vs. Warriors NBA Playoffs Betting Odds
Dallas had won three of four regular-season meetings in this series, but the playoffs once again have proven that the NBA regular season means little. The Warriors weren’t whole for any of those four games, either.
With Golden State up 1-0, the Warriors are -400 on the series line (were -227) and the Mavericks +302 (were +183). On the series handicap, Golden State at -1.5 games is -182 and Dallas at +1.5 games is +146. On the correct score after Game 3, Warriors up 2-1 is -120, up 3-0 is +176 and Mavericks up 2-1 is +451. For the series exact result, Warriors in five at +240 is the favourite. The Mavs in five is a +1603 long shot. The over-under for series games is 5.5, with the over down to -141. That it finishes in five is a +201 leader.
Even with the Game 1 blowout, the Mavericks are 6-2 ATS in their past eight at Golden State.
Dallas Mavericks
There was no expectation of a letdown for the Mavericks after destroying top-seeded Phoenix on Sunday in Game 7 because that was such a stress-free game, but perhaps there was indeed a letdown Wednesday in the 112-87 loss against the Warriors. Dallas was way too dependent on settling for three-pointers, jacking up 48 of them and making only 11. Overall, the Mavericks shot 36.0 per cent from the field and were destroyed on the boards.
Golden State was not going to let Luka Doncic win single-handedly. Doncic was held to 20 points in 35 minutes and was minus-30. Doncic had more turnovers (seven) than field goals made (six) for the first time in his playoff career. Golden State also exposed him on defence as Warriors players shot 10-for-17 for 24 points whenever Doncic was the primary defender. It was the Mavs’ third loss of at least 20 points in these playoffs. They are 19-7 ATS in their past 26 following an ATS loss.
Golden State Warriors
The Warriors are favoured to win the NBA title and looked the part in Game 1. Toronto native Andrew Wiggins was probably the best player on the floor as he played spectacular defence on Doncic and also had 19 points, five rebounds, three assists and a team-best +28 rating. Steph Curry added 21 points and an unusual 12 rebounds.
Draymond Green showed why he is one of the best defenders in the NBA by holding Mavericks players to 4-for-15 shooting and 0-for-9 from deep when he was the primary defender. It was Golden State’s 13th straight Game 1 home win in a playoff series and ninth straight home win overall this year dating to the regular season. The Warriors are 8-2 ATS in their past 10 at home.
