Following a day off in the NBA on Tuesday, a 14-game slate on Wednesday night is headlined in part by a showdown between the Dallas Mavericks and San Antonio Spurs at 9:30 p.m. ET on ESPN.

The Frost Bank Center in San Antonio will be rocking for what is without question a potential Western Conference playoffs preview.

Victor Wembanyama and company are the defending conference champions and come in with a 5-2 record. The Mavericks are off to a 4-3 start and feature a dangerous duo of Kyrie Irving and Cooper Flagg.

These two teams have already faced each other once this season, when San Antonio went into Dallas and hammered the Mavericks 122-106 on October 24. The Spurs swept all four head-to-head matchups last year and have won six in a row over the Mavs dating back to the 2024-25 campaign.

Mavericks vs. Spurs NBA Betting Odds

Money line: Mavericks +450 / Spurs -655

Point spread: Mavericks +12.5 (-110) / Spurs -12.5 (-110)

Game totals: Over 229.5 (-110) / Under 229.5 (-110)

Given their recent head-to-head dominance, home-court advantage and simply the fact that they are one of the best teams in basketball, it’s no surprise to see the Spurs going off as massive favourites on the NBA odds.

In fact, this is the sixth consecutive contest in which San Antonio has been favoured by at least 12.5 points. This is just the second time in 2026-27 that Dallas has been a double-digit underdog, with the other occasion also coming against San Antonio (+14.5).

The Spurs are 6-0 against the spread in the last H2H meetings and 3-0 ATS in their last three at home against the Mavericks. However, Dallas is 3-1 ATS in its last four overall and 2-0 ATS in its last two road games. The over is 5-2 in the last seven encounters between these two teams, but the under is 5-1 in Dallas’ last six contests and 7-2 in San Antonio’s last nine.

Dallas Mavericks

Irving is listed as day-to-day with a knee injury that sidelined him from Monday’s loss to Sacramento. It was just the second game the former Duke standout has missed this season – the first one being his team’s setback against this same San Antonio outfit.

It is very possible that Irving was held out against the Kings as a precautionary measure, with the Mavs probably thinking they could still steal one against a horrible Sacramento squad. However, that backfired in the form of a 115-100 blemish against the previously 0-6 Kings.

Flagg has been outstanding so far this season, averaging 25.2 points, 6.5 assists and 5.7 rebounds per game. The No. 1 overall pick in 2025 will be looking to bounce back after shooting a mere 3-of-19 from the floor for 17 points against Sacramento.

San Antonio Spurs

San Antonio started the season 0-2, falling to arch rival Oklahoma City and to a red-hot Houston squad that is currently 7-1. Since then, though, the Spurs have reeled off five straight victories. Wembanyama has been rolling for the most part since his disastrous season opener against the Thunder, scoring at least 23 points in five of the last six games – including 43 against Minnesota this past Saturday.

Newcomer Tobias Harris has not yet made his Spurs debut because of a calf strain. There is still no timetable for the veteran’s return, so he is certain to remain sidelined for Wednesday’s contest.

NBA Prediction: Who Will Win Mavericks vs. Spurs?

Neither Irving nor Flagg played in the first matchup against the Spurs a little more than a week ago, so that result can be thrown out the window. Staying within 16 points actually represented a decent effort by Dallas.

Although San Antonio will probably take care of business in front of its own fans on Wednesday, giving 12.5 points may be too much – provided that Irving is able to suit up for the visitors.

Let’s go with Spurs 117, Mavericks 109.
