The Mavericks have jumped to fifth in the Western Conference standings following a 107-101 come-from-behind win in Golden State on Sunday. Dallas’ five-game road trip concludes Tuesday night in Los Angeles when they face a Lakers squad coming off a 123-95 home loss against the Pelicans on Sunday.
The Mavs opened as 3.5-point favourites to win on the NBA odds, with a total of 220.0.
Mavericks vs. Lakers NBA Betting Odds
The Lakers lead the all-time series between these teams by a hefty 115-50 margin, coming out on top in the only meeting, so far, this year. L.A. took a 107-104 overtime decision in Dallas on Dec. 15. LeBron James scored a team-high 24 points for the Lakers, while Dallas’ Jalen Brunson led all scorers in the game with 25 points. Mavericks star Luka Doncic did not play.
Dallas is hot right now as they enter Tuesday’s contest with seven wins in their last nine games. They’re a solid 34-26-1 against the spread overall and they’ve covered in eight of their last nine games. The Mavericks are trending toward low scoring games, with the total going Under in six of their last nine contests.
The Lakers have struggled to gain any positive momentum all year and their latest slide has seen them drop five of their last six games. They’re a dismal 24-36 ATS overall, including 13-20 ATS at home. The total has gone Under in four of L.A.’s last five games.
Dallas Mavericks
The Mavericks trailed by as much as 21 points on Wednesday before stunning the Warriors late. Doncic finished with a game-high 34 points and 11 rebounds, nailing two clutch free throws with under 10 seconds to play. The Slovenian star is the biggest piece of this roster, averaging team-highs in points per game (27.6), rebounds (9.2) and assists (8.9).
Spencer Dinwiddie added 24 points against Golden State, including 10 points in the fourth quarter. He scored five straight points in the final frame to give Dallas a 93-90 lead. Dinwiddie and Davis Bertans were picked up from Washington in exchange for Kristaps Porzingis just before the trade deadline.
Trey Burke (sprained left shoulder), Marquese Chriss (sore right knee) and Frank Ntilikina (sprained right ankle) all missed Sunday’s game and will also be out on Tuesday.
Los Angeles Lakers
It was another wasted performance for James on Sunday as he dropped a game-high 32 points despite the blowout loss. Russell Westbrook was the next highest scorer at just 16 points. James is carrying the Lakers right now and is third in NBA scoring with 29.0 ppg. He also leads the team with 1.6 steals per game and 1.0 blocks. L.A. is now a season-worst six games under .500 with a 27-33 record. There seems to be a serious lack of chemistry with this team as they committed 23 turnovers against the Pelicans, including 16 in the first half.
The biggest concern for the Lakers right now is the continued injury problems with Anthony Davis, who is second on the team with 23.1 ppg and leads L.A. with 9.7 rebounds. There’s fear Davis could miss the remainder of the season after spraining his foot in a game against Utah on Feb. 16. It was originally thought the injury would only sideline Davis for about two weeks, but that timeline has been bumped to five to six weeks after an MRI. The regular season ends on April 10, so it’s hard to see Davis returning before the playoffs, if the Lakers even qualify.
