Dallas Mavericks vs. Utah Jazz Game 4 Prediction, NBA Playoff Odds

The Mavericks haven’t had superstar Luka Doncic yet in their Western Conference playoff series against the Jazz but reportedly will in Game 4 on Saturday in Salt Lake City.

Mavericks vs. Jazz NBA Playoffs Betting Odds

This might be the final home game in a Jazz uniform for one of two All-Stars: Centre Rudy Gobert or guard Donovan Mitchell. Ditto for Coach Quin Snyder, linked to the Lakers job and perhaps the Spurs gig if Gregg Popovich retires.

With Dallas surprisingly up 2-1, the Mavericks are now -233 series favourites (were +214 entering Game 3) and the Jazz +185 (were -270). On the series handicap, Dallas at +1.5 is -714 and Utah at -1.5 is +448. The favoured exact result is Mavericks in seven at +220 and a potential Game 7 would be in Dallas. Utah in seven is a +440 long shot. The over-under for total games is 5.5, with the over a -500 favourite.

Dallas has covered six straight games vs. Utah.

Dallas Mavericks

This writer didn’t think Dallas could win Game 3 in Salt Lake City without superstar Luka Doncic and neither did oddsmakers as the Mavericks were 8.5-point underdogs, but they were the better team from the get-go in a 126-118 victory. Arguably the best player so far this post-season, and it’s not hyperbole, has been Dallas guard and free-agent-to-be Jalen Brunson. He had 31 points and five assists Thursday and has totaled 72 points, 10 assists and just one turnover in the past two games combined. It’s the first time in Brunson’s career that he’s scored at least 30 points in consecutive games, but that’s likely to end if Doncic returns on Saturday from his strained calf as if expected.

Big man Maxi Kleber suddenly has become a three-point sharpshooter as he followed an 8-for-11 effort from deep in Game 2 by hitting 4-for-5 in Game 3 for 17 points. The Mavs were 18-for-42 from deep. Canadian centre Dwight Powell starts for Dallas but hasn’t been much of a factor; he was scoreless in 13 minutes on Thursday. The Mavericks are 10-4 ATS in their past 14 as underdogs.

Utah Jazz

That the Jazz haven’t taken advantage of Luka Doncic’s absence and be up at least 2-1 in this series is nothing short of unforgivable. There are reports stars Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert don’t get along and one of them is being traded should Utah lose this series. Mitchell got his 32 points on Thursday but has been way off from deep – he was 1-for-8 from three-point range and did little in the first half as Dallas led by 17 at the break. Gobert had his best offensive game of the series with 15 points but only seven rebounds and one block.

The entire team looked flat in the first half and the perimeter defence has been terrible. Utah did get within one in the fourth quarter but then faded. The Jazz had won 11 in a row at home against Dallas. Utah is 3-10-1 ATS in its past 14 games. We think the Jazz show some heart and win here as Doncic could be rusty but have to take the points.
