The Toronto Raptors open a two-game I-4 series (Interstate 4) against the Orlando Magic in Tampa, Fla., on Sunday evening with the Dinos as 5.5-point favourites to win on the NBA odds. The total is 216.

NBA Point Spread and Betting Analysis

Usually when the NBA schedules two teams to play back-to-back games against one another this season, it’s in the same city for travel purposes. However, after hosting the Magic on Sunday, the Raptors go to Orlando on Tuesday. Then again, it’s only about an 80-mile bus ride on Interstate 4 from Tampa to Orlando (but always takes much longer than it should due to horrific traffic).

Toronto swept the four-game regular-season series last year, 4-0, winning by an average score of 104 to 93.5. Fred VanVleet averaged 20.3 points and 6.8 assists in the series, Kyle Lowry 17.0 points, 8.0 assists and 7.0 rebounds, and Pascal Siakam 16.8 points and 9.8 rebounds.

Evan Fournier led the Magic in averaging 18.3 points, while Jonathan Isaac was at 16.0 points and 10.0 rebounds, and former No. 1 overall pick Markelle Fultz 12.0 points. Isaac tore up his knee during the Orlando bubble last summer and isn’t expected to play this season. Fultz tore his ACL in early January and is done for the year.

The Raptors have covered the spread six straight in the series. The under is 7-2 in the past nine.

Orlando Magic

Orlando was actually a home favourite against the Los Angeles Clippers on Friday but then it was announced that Clippers stars Kawhi Leonard and Paul George were cleared from COVID protocols, and it was the biggest single-game spread shift of the year. The Magic were routed 116-90. About the only bright spot for Orlando was former Raptor Terrence Ross with 24 points. The Magic have one Canadian player in big man Khem Birch, and the 28-year-old Montreal native gets about 22 minutes per night off the bench and averages 7.1 points and 6.5 rebounds. The Magic are 2-7 ATS in their past nine as underdogs.

Toronto Raptors

Toronto dropped its third in a row Friday, a 126-124 upset loss in Tampa to Sacramento. Really not a game the Dinos should lose as the Kings hit 55.1 per cent from the field. Siakam had 32 points, and VanVleet had 26. Norman Powell, who has been red hot, missed the game with a right quad contusion, and OG Anunoby missed his second in a row with a left calf strain. Both are questionable for this one. Toronto has missed at least one starter for five consecutive games. VanVleet is the only one who has started every game this season. The Dinos are 4-12 in their past 16 as favourites.
