The Thunder dropped a pair of decisions to Sacramento in a two-game home series with the Kings, capped by Tuesday’s 123-117 loss to Sacramento. OKC has now surrendered 122.8 points per game during the four-game slide that leaves them stalled in 13th place in the Western Conference. The Lakers wrap up a three-game road trip in Oklahoma City after seeing a three-game win streak end with Tuesday’s 121-109 loss in Memphis. L.A. sits just a half-game up on the Thunder in the conference standings.

The Thunder look to Wednesday’s contest pegged as slim 1-point home favourites on the NBA odds, while the total is listed at 229.5.

Wednesday night’s matchup at Paycom Center marks the second of three scheduled meetings this season between these Western Conference rivals. The Thunder rolled to a 133-130 win when they visited L.A. back on February 7, and have now claimed victory in three of five head-to-head clashes. However, the Lakers have largely dominated when visiting Oklahoma City, winning outright in six of eight since January 2018, but have covered in just five of their past 15 overall dates with the Thunder.

Last month’s meeting marked the highest-scoring clash between these teams in over four years, and ended a steady 3-0 run for the UNDER. However, the OVER has paid out in five of their past seven matchups in Oklahioma City.

Los Angeles Lakers

The Lakers will have to make do without LeBron James as they seek to battle their way back into the Western Conference playoff picture. According to reports, James is expected to be sidelined for at least two or three weeks due to a foot injury. In addition to James, the Lakers’ newest addition D’Angelo Russell has missed the past two games due to an ankle injury and is listed as day-to-day, casting serious doubt over his availability for Wednesday’s contest.

With James and Russell sidelined, the burden of carrying this team falls on Anthony Davis. The Lakers big man has averaged 29 points while leading the team in scoring in the past two games, but tallied just 13 points in last month’s home loss to the Thunder.

Oklahoma City Thunder

The Thunder received bad news on Tuesday as leading scorer Shai Gilgeous-Alexander entered the NBA’s health and safety protocols. Already battling ankle and abdomen injuries that have sidelined him since last Thursday, Gilgeous-Alexander’s growing health woes leave this team with a massive hole on offence. The Thunder have worked to fill that void with scoring by committee.

With Gilgeous-Alexander on the shelf, Isaiah Joe and Jalen Williams have taken turns leading the team in scoring over the past three games, and the Thunder bench has contributed 41 points per game over that stretch. However, with this club surrendering over 120 points in eight of their past 10 outings, turning things around on defence remains a massive challenge as they prepare to play their fifth game in seven nights.
