Philadelphia’s coming off a 118-102 defeat versus Oklahoma City last night in which Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, and Paul George all did not play due to injuries. Embiid (foot) has been out since January 4 whereas Maxey and George last played on Sunday. This alone indicates that if any of this trio is to return against New York, Maxey and George are most likely.

The 26-15 Knicks have dropped five of their last seven contest. A catalyst in these losses has been a lack of defence — four of these five losses has seen New York surrender a minimum of 115 points. Luckily for New York, the 15-23 76ers rank third-worst in the NBA with 107 points per game and had to scrap their way to 100 last night without their star scorers on the court.

Tip-off at Wells Fargo Center starts at 7 p.m. EST with the Knicks a -250 moneyline favourite on the road, and 6.5-point favourite on the point spread. The total is at 219.5 on the NBA odds.

Knicks vs. 76ers NBA Betting Odds

Philadelphia is just 6-12 on home court this season. Their home betting trends don’t do them any favours too, as the 76ers have failed to cover in seven straight home games are also 1-5 ATS in their last six times hosting the Knicks. This includes a 111-99 New York win in Philadelphia back on November 12, these teams lone prior meeting this season. Embiid and George both started in that loss, but Maxey was out.

New York comes into Wednesday having won eight of their last 10 road games. Four of the Knicks last six outings overall have gone over the total and they’ve scored a total of 259 points in their last two games, most recently losing 124-119 at Detroit on Monday.

New York Knicks

The Knicks are quickly dropping out of the top 10 in opponents scoring this season. Regarded as one of the league’s top defending squads, New York’s been going through a slump in stopping opposing offences — and they’re starting to publicly admit it. Monday’s 124-119 loss was the fourth time this month the Knicks have allowed over 115 points, and third time over 120. A couple 40-pieces from Karl-Anthony Towns and Jalen Brunson in January have helped keep the Knicks in some of these games but the scoring onslaughts are becoming a legitimate issue for a contender that’s now 5-5 over their last 10 appearances.

Both Towns (thumb) and Brunson (shoulder) are on New York’s injury report too. Towns is listed as questionable, and Brunson probable. Both played Monday at Detroit.

Philadelphia 76ers

Philadelphia is predictably going to struggle without their top three scorers playing. Justin Edwards led the way with 25 points off the bench last night, the only 76er to crack 20 points. The 76ers shot 13 for 44 for three (29.5 per cent) last night, and nearly half of those made treys came from Edwards and Jeff Dowtin Jr. off the bench.

The key to the puzzle has always been Embiid, who can’t stay healthy this season. In Embiid’s 13 games this season, Philadelphia is 7-6 with and without him they are 8-17. Pressure is mounting as the 15-23 76ers now sit on the outside of the Eastern Conference play-in, but who knows what the level of urgency is for these stars to return to Philly’s lineup.
