The Kings embark on a two-game road trip after snapping a four-game slide with a 125-121 upset victory over the visiting Portland Trail Blazers on Wednesday night. The Lakers return home after closing out a five-game Eastern road trip with a 124-116 overtime win in India that marks their second victory in three outings.

Los Angeles is a 7.5-point favourite to win on the NBA odds, with a total of 229.5.

Kings vs. Lakers NBA Betting Odds

With support of 75 per cent of sports bettors, the Lakers have held steady since opening a 7.5-point home favourites in Friday’s contest at Staples Center. The total has shifted up from 228.0 because of heavy support for the OVER from sports bettors.

Friday night’s matchup marks the first meeting of the season between these Pacific Division rivals. The Kings took two of three from Los Angeles last season, capped by a 110-106 win on April 30, and have tallied upset wins as betting underdogs in two straight road dates with the Lakers. Low scoring was the theme in their final two clashes last season, with the total failing to top 216 in either contest. That snapped a steady 5-2 run for the OVER, during which the total exceeded 230 on five occasions. Home favourites have failed to cover in five straight head-to-head matchups, including each of the past three meetings in LA. That is a trend that has plagued the Lakers since last season, with the club going 4-13 against the spread over their past 17 as home chalk, including outright defeats in five of their past 11.

Sacramento Kings

The Kings rose to the occasion in Wednesday’s win over Portland as 3.5-point underdogs. Trailing by as many as five points in the fourth quarter, the team embarked on an 11-0 run to take a lead they would not relinquish. However, the Kings still have plenty of work to do to overcome the dismal 2-8 straight up and against the spread slide that has dumped them out of the Western Conference playoff picture. Sacramento has also lost outright in five of six road contests. Complicating matters is the uncertain health of Harrison Barnes. The veteran forward has contributed 19.0 points and 7.2 rebounds per game, but is listed as questionable on Friday after suffering a foot injury on Wednesday night.

Los Angeles Lakers

The Lakers had to play some catch-up of their own last time out, overcoming a 12-point third quarter deficit on their way to an eventual overtime victory over the Pacers. LeBron James led the way in his return from a one-game suspension, draining a game-high 39 points in his most productive outing so far this season. However, James has struggled to generate offence in recent appearances against the Kings, averaging just 16 points per game over his past three. In addition, James’ status for Friday remains in doubt as he continues to battle a nagging abdominal injury that previously sidelined him for almost two weeks. The good news is Anthony Davis is expected to make his return after sitting out Wednesday’s win in Indiana due to an unspecified illness.
