Jazz vs. Mavericks NBA Playoffs Betting Odds

These teams split the first two games in Dallas, although the Mavericks didn’t have superstar Luka Doncic then and he’s back healthy now. Obviously that it’s tied 2-2 means Utah will get at least one more home matchup in Game 6, which is scheduled for Thursday. The winner of the series faces either the top-seeded Phoenix Suns or No. 8 New Orleans Pelicans in the Western Conference semifinals. I probably wouldn’t have given either team a shot to beat the Suns if it is them but there’s a realistic chance if Phoenix star Devin Booker misses that series injured, which he could.

On the updated series line, Dallas is -135 (was -233 entering Game 4) with Utah +115 (was +185). On the series handicap, the Mavericks are -435 at +1.5 games and the Jazz +307 at -1.5 games. The favoured exact result is Dallas in seven at +200 with Utah in seven the +300 long shot. That it ends in six games is -115 and in seven -123.

Dallas is 8-1 against the spread in the past nine meetings.

Utah Jazz

We predicted the Jazz to win Game 4 by two points and they won by one: 100-99 thanks to an alley-oop dunk by centre Rudy Gobert with 11 seconds remaining. The Mavericks scored only 18 points in the fourth quarter and shot 33 per cent from the field in it. Gobert had 17 points and 15 rebounds, including 10 offensive boards. You may see Dallas foul him on purpose, though, because the “Stifle Tower” was just 9-for-18 from the charity stripe. Donovan Mitchell had 23 points, but his shooting struggles continued in hitting 7-for-21 overall and 2-for-10 from three-point range. His career post-season scoring average is 29.0 points, which is the fifth-best playoff scoring average in NBA history (minimum of 20 games). Former Sixth Man of the Year Jordan Clarkson came up big off the bench with 25 points and was plus-18 in 36 minutes.

Dallas Mavericks

Star Luka Doncic played Saturday for the first time this series off a calf strain and looked just fine with 30 points, 10 rebounds and four assists – although for some reason Spencer Dinwiddie took the final shot with a chance at the win and not Doncic. Dinwiddie wasn’t good with five points in 24 minutes off the bench. Jalen Brunson has had a bit of a coming-out party in this series and had 23 points with zero turnovers in 35 minutes. Brunson has one total turnover in the past three games. That’s absurd. Canadian big man Dwight Powell had his best game of the series Saturday with 11 points and seven rebounds. All four games in this series have been decided by eight or fewer points, including three by six or fewer. The Mavericks are 5-1 in their past six as home favourites – they weren’t favoured in the first two games in Dallas because Doncic was out.
