At 37-44 the Jazz will be wrapping their season up after this tilt, while L.A. is either playoff or play-in bound. A win against Utah doesn’t guarantee the 42-39 Lakers the sixth and final playoff spot in the West, but with some help they can avoid the seventh or eighth spots and the West’s play-in tournament.

Utah was right in the mix for the majority of the season but a disastrous stretch including two wins in their last 10 has ended their year. L.A’s the complete opposite, rising up in the new year and going 8-2 over their last 10. Tip-off at Crypto.com Arena starts at 3:30 p.m. EDT.

Road woes is what especially torpedoed Utah’s playoff push as they come into Sunday having three road victories since March. Ironically enough the Jazz have covered in eight straight road games but are 2-6 ATS in their last eight road games against the Lakers.

Sunday’s the final of four meetings between these clubs this season, and it’s the Jazz who are 2-1 outright and 3-0 ATS so far. Utah’s put up at least 130 points in all three games and the over is also 3-0. The over is on a 7-0 run in the Lakers last seven outings and has hit in 11 of Utah’s last 15 games.

Utah Jazz

Utah’s coming off a win yesterday against Denver in what was an incredibly raw roster. Four of the Jazz’s five starters had three or fewer years in the NBA as Jordan Clarkson (hand), Walker Kessler (head) Collin Sexton (hamstring), Lauri Markkanen (wrist), Talen Horton-Tucker (ankle), Kelly Olynyk (rest), and Rudy Gay (back) all did not play. With the Jazz eliminated you can expect another undermanned roster at L.A.

With younger players seeing heavier minutes several Jazz players had career days yesterday. 2022 first-round pick Ochai Agbaji led the team with a career-high 28 points while Luka Samanic had a career-high 23 to go with eight rebounds. Kris Dunn had a season-high 14 assists too.

Los Angeles Lakers

With still something to play for Sunday it’s unsure whether both LeBron James and Anthony Davis will be in the starting lineup. Both have battled back from injuries this season and have 53 starts each. Davis and James are both listed as questionable against Utah with right foot injuries, as is Dennis Schröder *(right Achilles soreness). D’Angelo Russell is probable with left foot soreness.

Russell led the Lakers with 24 points while Malik Beasley, a deadline acquisition along with Russell, had 21. Anthony Davis pulled in 21 rebounds and if not for the games played requirement Davis would end up as the NBA’s leading rebounder. The Lakers are sixth in the NBA with nearly 46 rebounds a night.
