NBA Point Spread and Betting Analysis

The season is over for the loser of Tuesday’s Hornets-Pacers game. The winner would travel to play the loser of Tuesday’s second game, the No. 8 seed Washington Wizards at No.  7 Boston Celtics. The winner of the Hornets/Pacers vs. Wizards/Celtics matchup would then be the East’s No. 8 seed and a first-round date with No. 1 Philadelphia. Meanwhile, the winner of Wizards-Celtics goes into the official playoff field as the East’s No. 7 seed and would face No. 2 Brooklyn. Got all that?

There have been rumblings that the Pacers may fire first-year head coach Nate Bjorkgren, the former Raptors assistant, barring a shocking deep run in the playoffs. There has been a lot of unhappiness in that locker room. Indiana should have been a lot better than 34-38, but it certainly isn’t all on Bjorkgren as the team was hit hard by injuries.

Charlotte won two of three regular-season meetings, including the lone one in Indianapolis on April 2, 114-97. Even with that, the Hornets are 1-4 ATS in their past five at the Pacers. The under is 3-0-1 in the previous four meetings.

Charlotte Hornets

The Hornets, who of course are owned by Michael Jordan, closed the season with five straight losses, but even with a loss here the season has been a success in one regard: Charlotte landed a future star at No. 3 overall in the 2020 NBA Draft in guard LaMelo Ball. He’s going to win NBA Rookie of the Year. In 51 games, Ball averaged 15.7 points, 6.1 assists and 5.9 rebounds at age 19. The team has been without its best all-around player, forward Gordon Hayward, since early April with a foot injury and it would be an upset if he played Tuesday. He’s an Indianapolis native. Charlotte is 1-6 ATS in its past seven as a road underdog and finished 15-21 straight up away from home.

Indiana Pacers

Indiana was the Raptors’ final opponent of the season, beating the Dinos 125-113 in Florida on Sunday to snap a two-game losing streak. Oshae Brissett scored a career-best 31 points and Domantas Sabonis added 25 points and 16 rebounds. Sabonis, an All-Star, had a monster season in averaging 20.3 points, 12.0 rebounds and 6.7 assists. The Pacers played without five key players in Malcolm Brogdon, Myles Turner, Aaron Holiday, Jeremy Lamb and Edmond Sumner. Turner was a Defensive Player of the Year candidate before going down April 18. He won’t play Tuesday, but the others might. Indiana is 5-0 ATS in its past five home games but finished just 13-23 straight up.
