Heat vs. Celtics NBA Betting Odds

Major League Baseball and the NHL have both had it but the NBA hasn’t: A team rally from down 3-0 in a series to win it. That’s what is on the line in the Eastern Conference Finals tonight from Boston with the Celtics hosting the Miami Heat. The Western Conference champion Denver Nuggets await in Game 1 of the NBA Finals on Thursday.

The Heat have not played a Game 7 or even an elimination game in this postseason. Boston is 5-0 in elimination games (1-0 in Game 7s). The teams played a Game 7 in the East Finals last year in Miami and Boston won 100-96 behind Jayson Tatum and 24 each from Jaylen Brown and Marcus Smart. All three should big roles tonight. Jimmy Butler had 35 to lead Miami. He might need 45 tonight.

Denver, which would have home-court advantage vs. Miami but  not Boston, is -111 to win the title with the Celtics +108 and Heat +1041.

Miami Heat

Miami has had three chances to eliminate the Celtics and one would expect major changes if this group loses to this same group at this same level but this time on the wrong side of 3-0 history. Former Raptor Kyle Lowry, for example, might be elsewhere if not retired. Starting guard Gabe Vincent is questionable. He missed Game 5 but played in the Heat’s crushing 104-103 loss in Game 6. Highly doubt he misses this one. What can you say? Miami should have won Game 6 but for a lucky break for Boston. But the Heat got an equally if not luckier break to eliminate Milwaukee in Game 1 of the first round. Miami has recorded an all-time 6-5 (.546) record in a Game 7, tying the fifth-highest winning percentage in NBA history (minimum 10 games). Under Erik Spoelstra, that record is 4-3. Heat are 11-4 ATS in their last 15 games overall.

Boston Celtics

If the Celtics go on to win an NBA title, Derrick White will never have to buy a drink in that town again White became the second player in NBA history to hit a buzzer-beater with his team trailing and facing elimination — Michael Jordan’s “The Shot” for Chicago against Cleveland in 1989 being the other – to beat Miami 104-103 in Game 6. The Celtics became just the fourth team in league history to win three straight games after losing the first three games of a best-of-seven. None of the previous four won a Game 7 but none got one on the road. The Celtics will host their 37th Game 7 in franchise history and boast a 22-5 record in a Game 7 at home in Boston. White has been a huge reason this series has turned overall by moving into the starting lineup. That and three-point shooting changing for the most part. Will NBA Sixth Man of the Year Malcolm Brogdon (forearm) play? He didn’t in Game 6. Celtics are 5-11 ATS in their last 16 Monday games.
