Regardless, the Warriors are 8.5-point favourites on the NBA odds back at home in Game 6 on Friday to finish things off.

Grizzlies vs. Warriors NBA Playoffs Betting Odds

We aren’t sure any team in NBA playoff history has won a game by nearly 40 points and then found itself at least an 8-point underdog in the next game like Memphis is for Friday’s Game 6 of the Western Conference semifinals at Golden State. If there is a Game 7, it would be Monday back in Memphis.

With Golden State up 3-2, the Warriors are -1429 on the series line and the Grizzlies +796. The Dubs are no longer Western Conference favourites, now priced +103 just behind the Phoenix Suns (-108), although that could change if the Suns lose Thursday night in Dallas. Memphis is a +2395 long shot. Golden State’s Steph Curry remains the +309 NBA Finals MVP favourite.

Memphis is 6-1 ATS in the past seven meetings.

Memphis Grizzlies

That Memphis won at home even without superstar Ja Morant in Game 5 isn’t all that shocking as the team was 20-5 without him in the regular season, but a 134-95 blowout was truly stunning. That margin of victory was tied for the largest win by any team when its All-Star from that season did not play in NBA postseason history. Previously, the Nets won in the 2021 playoffs by 39 points without James Harden and the Spurs also won by 39 in 2017 without Kawhi Leonard. Memphis led by as many as 55, the second-largest lead at any point of a playoff game in the past 25 years. Tyus Jones (starting for Morant), Jaren Jackson Jr. and Desmond Bane led the Grizzlies with 21 points each. Canadians Dillon Brooks (left injured briefly) and Brandon Clarke had a combined 23 points. Memphis hit 18 three-pointers and utterly dominated on the boards. Morant is almost surely not playing Friday or the rest of this series if the Grizzlies somehow pull the upset. They are 18-7-1 ATS in their past 26 as underdogs.

Golden State Warriors

The Warriors played their second straight game Wednesday without Coach Steve Kerr after he tested positive for COVID (status TBA for Friday). Assistant Mike Brown, already named the new head coach of the Sacramento Kings, ran the team again. Brown had been 14-0 as an interim Warriors coach in the playoffs for Kerr dating back several years before Wednesday’s blowout loss. Golden State is a veteran team but simply came out flat as if Game 5 was essentially a throwaway game. Klay Thompson managed to have a minus-45 rating in just 25 minutes. That tied for the worst plus/minus by any player in a postseason game over the past 25 years. Steph Curry was held to 14 points and was minus-37. It was the second-largest loss ever for the Warriors when Curry, Thompson and Draymond Green all played together. On the bright side: No key guys played heavy minutes. The Warriors are 1-6 ATS in their past seven games.
