Memphis Grizzlies vs. Utah Jazz Game 5 Prediction, Playoff Odds

The Jazz are up 3-1 and opened as 9.5-point favourites on the NBA odds to end it. The total is set at 226 points.

Grizzlies vs. Jazz NBA Playoff Odds

On the moneyline for Game 5, Utah is -454 with Memphis at +367. Both the over and under 226 points are -110. Because the Lakers are dealing with an injury to Anthony Davis (and could be down 3-2 to Phoenix on Tuesday night), the Jazz are now +180 favourites to win the Western Conference and +400 second-favourites to win their first NBA title.

If the Jazz can finish things off Wednesday, which I think they will, then they will get plenty of rest because their next opponent will be either the Los Angeles Clippers or Dallas Mavericks and that series is going a minimum of six games. Game 5 is also Wednesday and then Game 6 on Friday. So, the Jazz wouldn’t be opening Round 2 before Sunday at the earliest.

Memphis is 7-3 against the spread in its past 10 in Utah. The over is 10-1 in the previous 11 there.

Memphis Grizzlies

The Grizzlies are scoring enough to win this series, but they simply aren’t defending well enough. The Jazz reached at least 120 points for the third game in a row – all Utah wins – in Monday’s 120-113 victory in Memphis. Ja Morant continued his spectacular series with 23 points and 12 assists, the first 20-point, 10-assist playoff game in Grizzlies history. Dillon Brooks added 21 points, Jaren Jackson Jr. had his best game of the series with 21 points and six rebounds, and former Raptor Jonas Valanciunas finished with 14 points and 12 rebounds.

The fifth starter, Kyle Anderson, has been a black hole in this series and finished with only four points. Memphis was again down double digits entering the fourth and made a big push only to come up short. The Grizzlies are 1-6 ATS in their past seven after scoring 100 points or more in their previous game.

Utah Jazz

The Jazz will not take this series for granted Wednesday as last year in the Orlando bubble they blew a 3-1 series lead in the first round to the Denver Nuggets and lost in seven. There are a few reasons why Utah is so much better than Memphis, but a big one is three-point shooting. Utah was 17-for-34 from deep in Game 4 and outscored the Grizzlies by 21 points from behind the arc.

Donovan Mitchell again led with 30 points. Sixth Man of the Year Jordan Clarkson scored 24 points off the bench, and Rudy Gobert had 17 points, 16 of them in the second half, to go with eight rebounds and two blocks. Utah also outscored Memphis 64-40 in the paint. The Jazz are 5-1 ATS in their past six overall.
