Boston Celtics vs. Detroit Pistons Prediction, NBA Odds
The 42-16 Celtics are on a six-game win streak while the 32-26 Pistons have won seven straight. Detroit’s run has gotten them into sixth place in the Eastern Conference, which also makes this tilt a potential playoff preview — music to the ears of the Pistons organization that has yet to win a playoff game since 2008.
Boston’s coming off an 111-101 victory at Toronto last night; all six of the Celtics victories on this win streak have been by double digits. Detroit’s coming off a back-to-back on Sunday and Monday that saw them come out on top in a 148-143 shootout Sunday, and then a 106-97 shutdown performance on Monday. The Pistons got range, but a lot of NBA teams seem like a threat until the run into the defending champion Boston Celtics.
Tip-off at Little Caesars Arena goes at 7 p.m. EST with the Celtics -3.5 on the point spread and the total at 226 on the NBA odds.
Celtics vs. Pistons NBA Betting Odds
Boston has won 10 straight contests against Detroit, and are 7-0 in their last seven visits to play the Pistons. Wednesday’s a chance for the Celtics to complete a four-game sweep of Detroit in the regular season; the last Celtics–Pistons clash resulted in a 123-99 victory for Boston on December 12. Seven of these teams’ last 10 meetings have finished over the total.
But a lot has changed in Detroit. The Pistons come into Wednesday having covered in five straight outings, and are now above .500 outright on home court this season (15-13). Boston’s been the best road team in the NBA this season, winning 24 of their 30 road games this season. The Celtics are on an eight-game win streak on the road.
Boston Celtics
The Celtics possess a top-three defence in the NBA and that alone has made the month of February a breeze. Over Boston’s six-game win streak, their opponents have yet to crack over 105 points in a game. Boston’s gone over 110 points in all but one of those six wins, which is a long way of saying the Celtics are blowing their opponents out of the water.
A 35-24 first quarter in Toronto last night gave the Celtics all the breathing room they needed. Jaylen Brown led the team with 24 points, but four Celtics reached at least 19. Jayson Tatum posted a double-double with 19 points and 11 assists.
Kristaps Porzingis was scratched shortly before tip-off because of a non-COVID illness, but will play against Detroit on Wednesday. Al Horford (toe) will also be available against Detroit after missing yesterday’s win against Toronto. Jrue Holiday (rest) sat out against Toronto but should be back against Detroit.
Detroit Pistons
The Pistons seven-game win streak is their longest since 2015. But all seven of those victories have come against teams with sub .500 records. Wednesday is undoubtedly the biggest game of the Pistons season thus far: a measuring stick for an up-and-coming squad now with playoff aspirations.
And with all the chips on the line, expect Detroit to rely heavily on Cade Cunningham in all facets of the game. The 2021 first overall pick has led Detroit in scoring in four straight contests and is averaging nearly 30 points and over 10 assists per game in February. Cunningham’s 9.5 assists per game rank third in the NBA this season, and he’s had a 14-assist game against Boston back on December 4.
