The Boston Celtics are one of the best teams in the league right now by a pretty substantial margin.
They just lost to the Miami Heat in overtime on Friday, which marked just their first loss since November 23rd. They’ve won 14 out of their last 16 games and at 18-5, have the best record in the NBA.
On Sunday, they get the Brooklyn Nets, who might finally be putting it all together. They’ve won four in a row and five out of their last six. Which of these surging teams can win this one?
Celtics vs. Nets NBA Betting Odds
Boston is 5-1 ATS in their last six games overall and 21-9-1 ATS in their past 31 games played out on the road. The over has cashed out in Boston’s last four games overall but the under has hit in five out of their last seven when playing on the road against a team with a winning home record on the season.
The Nets are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games when going up against a team with a winning straight up record on the season but are just 4-12 ATS in their last 16 at home against teams with a winning road record. For the total, the under has hit in the last four Brooklyn games and is 4-1 in their last five games at home against teams with a road winning percentage above .600.
Boston Celtics
There’s been one simple reason that the Celtics are one of the toughest teams to beat in the league right now: their offensive firepower. The Celtics rank No. 1 in the NBA in points scored per game and by quite the large margin. They are 1.6 points more than the second place Sacramento Kings and 3.9 above the third-place team.
Boston has a variety of scorers that can beat you, but primarily lean on their unbelievable forward duo of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. Tatum puts up 30.8 points a night with Brown pitching in 26.6. Even when they leave the court, playmakers such as Derrick White, Marcus Smart and Malcolm Brogdon can hold down the fort. This team is talented, and it’s tough to beat them.
Brooklyn Nets
While the Celtics have depth and balance, unfortunately, Brooklyn is a good team only when one of Kevin Durant or Kyrie Irving have great nights. On days they don’t perform, they really struggle for points. However, they haven’t had off nights in a while. In fact, there hasn’t been a single game this season when a player not named Irving and Durant led the team in scoring.
Ben Simmons won’t be available as he battles an injury, so even more of the pressure will be on the two superstars in Brooklyn. The only way that they can get some help is from their bench crew. TJ Warren just recently returned from an injury, Seth Curry has been a lightning rod in the minutes he’s played and Joe Harris has been effective of late. Harris has scored 14 or more in three straight. If he keeps this up and Warren starts to pour in points, this team can continue to rise.
