Some bettors wondered how the Boston Celtics would fare without Gordon Hayward in Game 2 of their Eastern Conference quarter-final series with Philadelphia. The Celtics put any concerns to rest with a dominant performance Wednesday – and are now in the driver’s seat as they face the reeling Sixers on Friday night in Game 3.

NBA Point Spread and Betting Analysis

Despite covering each of the first two games at similar spreads, oddsmakers aren’t quite ready to anoint the Celtics as the dominant side in this matchup. Bettors will be treated to another spread around the -5 mark, and that should suit Boston backers just fine, with the Celtics having covered five of their past seven games. The Sixers are headed in the other direction from a covers perspective, having gone just 3-7 ATS in their last 10.

The total for Game 2 hasn’t moved much, opening as high as 220 in some spots before settling in at 217.5. And Sports Interaction participants are all over the Over here, with 91 percent learning toward the O217.5. The Celtics don’t have any notable O/U trends to speak of heading into Game 3, but the 76ers certainly do: They’ve seen 12 of their previous 16 games go above the Vegas total – in part because they’ve allowed 124+ points in six of their last 10.

Boston Celtics

If the Celtics continue to look this good with Hayward out of the lineup, they might just cash in on those +375 odds to win the Eastern Conference championship. Boston’s defense has held Philadelphia below 30 percent shooting from 3-point territory, and the Celtics have averaged 118.5 points per game on offense to rank among the league leaders through two games. Tatum has been the star of the show, averaging 32.5 points to date.

Philadelphia 76ers

When everyone outside your top two shooters goes a combined 4-for-26 from long range over a two-game span, you probably aren’t winning many games – or even covering as an underdog. That’s the situation the 76ers find themselves in as they look to avoid a four-game sweep. And oddsmakers believe that conclusion is the likeliest of all, placing +110 odds on the Celtics finishing off the 76ers Sunday night in Game 4.
