Chicago Bulls vs. Toronto Raptors

Point Spread:  Raptors -12.5

Date: Oct. 19, 7:30 PM ET

Air Canada Centre – Toronto, Ontario

Point Spread and Betting Analysis

The Raptors opened up as 13-point favourites in their season home opener on the NBA odds board and are currently holding at -12.5.

Even with a watered down roster, Raptor fans have good reason to fear the Bulls. Toronto is 1-11 straight up and 0-12 against the spread in its last 12 games against Chicago.

The Raptors should have an easier time, at least for this season, with the Bulls. Chicago projects to be the worst team in the Association according to Sports Interaction’s NBA season win totals. The Bulls’ win total is listed 22 while the Raptors’ total rests at 48.5 (over -135).

Toronto is the second favourite (+282) to win the Atlantic Division behind the Boston Celtics (-300), while the Bulls are paying +10100 to win LeBron James and the Cavaliers’ Central Division.

Bulls

Chicago will be without two potential starters on Thursday against the Raptors. Bulls forward Bobby Portis was suspended by the team for eight games after he punched teammate Nikola Mirotic in the face at practice on Tuesday. Mirotic suffered facial fractures and a concussion, and is expected to miss four to six weeks.

The incident opens the door for the Bulls to start rookie Lauri Markkanen. The sharp-shooter 7-footer missed time during the preseason because of a sore back but impressed observers with his performance for Finland at EuroBasket tournament last August.

Raptors

Toronto returns just about the same roster as the one that got bounced by the Cavaliers in the second round of the playoffs last spring. The Raptors did trade backup point guard and Canadian kid Corey Joseph to the Indiana Pacers for 3-point specialist C.J. Miles.

Miles’ outside touch will be helpful but the big question is if Delon Wright can handle the point guard duties when Kyle Lowry not on the floor.
