Milwaukee Bucks vs. Atlanta Hawks Game 6 Prediction, Playoff Odds

Payton Matthews | Updated Jul 02, 2021

A banged up Milwaukee and Atlanta will potentially be forced to play Game 6 without either of their superstars as the Bucks' Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Hawks' Trae Young are both questionable for Saturday.

The Milwaukee Bucks can punch their ticket to the NBA Finals on Saturday night in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Finals, while the Atlanta Hawks look to force a Game 7. The Hawks are 1.5-point home favourites to win on the NBA odds with a total of 216.

Bucks vs. Hawks NBA Playoff Odds

On the moneyline for Game 6, Atlanta is -128 and Milwaukee +106. Both the over and under 216 points are -110. The Hawks are -1 on the first-half line.

Neither of these teams have won the Eastern Conference title previously. Milwaukee owns an NBA championship but that was when the team was in the West. If there is a Game 7, it would be Monday in Milwaukee. Who doesn’t want to see that (other than Bucks fans)?

With the Bucks up 3-2, they are -455 on the series line and the Hawks +300. The winner of this series will be an underdog in the NBA Finals against the Western Conference champion Phoenix Suns, who are healthy and will be very well-rested. The Suns are -189 to win their first title with the Bucks +187 and Hawks +1200.

Milwaukee is 5-2 against the spread in the past seven meetings. The under is 5-0 in the previous five in Atlanta.

Milwaukee Bucks

Superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo missed Game 5 with a knee injury and we will say right off the bat that it’s not expected the two-time league MVP will play Saturday. The Bucks somewhat are playing with house money. They can perhaps get fortunate and win without him; at worst, the Greek Freak rests and recovers for two more days for a potential Game 7 at home.

The Bucks dominated without him in Game 5, rolling 123-112 at home. Milwaukee outscored Atlanta a whopping 66-36 in the paint – that’s usually where Giannis does his damage. Centre Brook Lopez has largely become a 3-point shooter/perimeter player. He attempted only two 3-pointers Thursday, missing both, but finished 14-for-18 from the field for 33 points. A whopping 26 of those points were in the paint. That tied Antetokounmpo for the second-most points in the paint by a Bucks player in a playoff game over the last 25 postseasons. Bobby Portis, usually the primary sixth man, started for Giannis and had 22 points and eight rebounds. Khris Middleton (26 points, 13 rebounds) and Jrue Holiday (25 points, 13 assists) were also terrific. Milwaukee is now 7-5 this year without Giannis. The Bucks are, though, 1-6 ATS in their past seven as road dogs.

Atlanta Hawks

Will Hawks star Trae Young play? He has missed the past two with a foot injury. We think the Hawks purposefully kept Young out of Game 5 to rest/rehab knowing they had at least one more game in the bag. As of now, Young is being called game-time decision for Game 6, but for purposes of this pick we think he plays.

Just as the Hawks overwhelmed Milwaukee immediately in Game 4 without their star, Atlanta was overwhelmed to start Game 5 and the outcome was really never in doubt. Lou Williams started for Young again and had 17 points and five assists. Bogdan Bogdanovic, playing through his own injury, had 28 points. John Collins had 19 points and eight rebounds. Centre Clint Capela was in question with an eye injury. He played but was not very effective in 21 minutes and was part of the reason why Atlanta was dominated in the paint. The Hawks have been down 3-2 in a best-of-7 series 20 times previously and won just three of those, last in the 2010 first round … against Milwaukee. In NBA history in best-of-7 series, only 16 per cent of those down 3-2 have won said series. The Hawks are 4-0 ATS in their past four as favourites.
