The Philadelphia 76ers are the top seed in the Eastern Conference for a reason, and they can sweep out the No. 8 Washington Wizards from the first round of the playoffs Monday in Game 4 from D.C. The Sixers are 7.5-point favourites on the NBA odds with a total of 230.5.

It’s incredibly rare in all the major pro sports leagues for teams to rally from a 3-0 deficit to win a series and in fact it has never happened, believe it or not, in the NBA. The Portland Trail Blazers were the last team to force a Game 7 after being down 3-0. That was in the first round of the 2003 Western Conference playoffs against the Dallas Mavericks, who were able to take Game 7 at home. The Wizards are not rallying from down 3-0 in this series.

Obviously, Philadelphia would like to finish things off Monday to rest up for the second round when the Sixers probably will face the Eastern Conference fifth-seeded Atlanta Hawks, who went up 3-1 in their first-round series Monday vs. the No. 4 New York Knicks.

Philadelphia 76ers

The Sixers have barely been tested in this series. They led Game 3 in D.C. on Saturday by eight after a quarter and never looked back in a 132-103 victory. Philadelphia shot 17-for-33 from deep and 58.6 per cent overall against what was the NBA’s worst scoring defence during the regular season. Joel Embiid has been unstoppable and had a playoff career-high 36 points on 14-for-18 shooting in just 28 minutes. Those were the second-fewest minutes in a 35-point playoff game in the shot-clock era (since 1954-55). Embiid has played 84 minutes in this series and has 88 points on 67.4 per cent shooting.

Tobias Harris also has been great in this series and had 20 points, 13 rebounds and five assists in Game 3 – his first-ever 20/10/5 post-season game. The five Philly starters combined for 100 points and all were at least plus-27. The Sixers are 10-3-1 against the spread in their past 14 as road favourites.

Washington Wizards

Wizards star Russell Westbrook was questionable for Game 3 with a sprained ankle but he played and had a triple-double of 26 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists. It was the Triple-Double King’s 11^th career in the playoffs, tied with Jason Kidd for third in NBA history behind only Magic Johnson (30) and LeBron James (28). Bradley Beal added 25 points but was inefficient 10-for-26 shooting. It’s not impossible that Monday could be Beal’s final game with Washington if he demands a trade this off-season as some have speculated in order to somewhere he can win a title.

Coach Scott Brooks pulled Raul Neto from the starting lineup for forward Davis Bertans but Bertans had just eight points and was minus-34 in 31 minutes. Brooks hinted he would probably try something else for Game 4. The Wizards are 7-2-1 ATS in their past 10 after a loss.
