The hosts are the talk of the town and of the NBA, having conquered 16 consecutive challenges. The franchise’s longest winning streak is 20 contests, a record set during the 1970-1971 campaign. Standing in their way is a good Philly team that needs a win badly.

76ers vs. Bucks NBA Betting Odds

One thing is certain. Philadelphia and Milwaukee contests make for very good games. While the Bucks hold a slight 3-2 edge in their previous five bouts, none was decided by more than nine points. Three were determined by three points or fewer. Of note, in a league where home-court advantage typically means so much, the road units have claimed four of those same five games. The most recent game back in November was the lone time a team won in front of its fans (76ers 110-102).

Doc Rivers’ 76ers group needs to start applying the pedal to the metal. They lag five games behind both Saturday’s opponents in the East and have only gone 6-4 in the last 10. Furthermore, even though the last two defeats were against playoff teams (Miami and Dallas), at least judging from their records, both should have been bested. Interestingly enough, the past 15 contests have seen wins translate to covered spreads and vice versa.

So the streak has extended to 16 games. Mike Budenholzer’s men are playing absolutely terrific basketball and have for some time now. Even betters have found relative comfort in taking Milwaukee against the spread, as the club has gone 11-5 ATS during their successful run. Lest anyone thinks Milwaukee has had it easy, they’ve handled Denver, Boston, Miami, the Clippers twice, and Phoenix.

Philadelphia 76ers

After splitting a home-and-home with the Miami Heat by trading road wins, Philadelphia remained south-bound whilst heading west to face the new-look Dallas Mavericks on Thursday night.

For half a game, the 76ers made a claim that they could take care of business against the high-flying hosts. They trailed, but only by four, not a deficit that would scare a side of their quality. Much to everyone’s surprise, Dallas completely overran the NBA’s third-best defence in the third fame, outscoring them 39-24. Both Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving went ballistic, scoring 42 and 40 points, respectively. Irving went deep into his bag of tricks, making several jaw-dropping drives, dekes, and step-backs, bewildering any 76er tasked with guarding him. The fourth quarter was the flip side, with the guests mounting a considerable comeback, but it was too little, too late, as Dallas won 133-126. It just goes to show how important the three-ball is these days. Philly outscored Dallas 60-34 in the paint, yet still lost. Joel Embiid (35 points) and James Harden (27 points) had nice offensive nights but sported terrible +/- differentials (-16 and -21).

Milwaukee Bucks

Milwaukee wasn’t faced with quite the same challenge on Wednesday night. The Bucks got to receive one of the Eastern Conference’s lower-level clubs, the Orlando Magic.

The Magic had some tricks up their sleeve. More than once this season Orlando has surprised clubs many expected them to lose against. The guests gave themselves more than a fighter’s chance to take down the hottest team in the NBA for two quarters. Interestingly, much like the Philly-Dallas game, the club that dominated the paint (Orland, 56-38) lost. But why would the Bucks worry about attacking via the key when Giannis Antentokounmpo and Brook Lopez go 3-4 and 4-5 from beyond the arc, respectively? As the game wore on, Milwaukee was simply too good, and even got nice numbers from AJ Green (12 points) and Joe Ingles (16 points). It was close for a bit but ended convincingly in Milwaukee’s favour, 139-117.
