Molly McCann vs. Taila Santos Odds
Date: Wednesday, July 15th, 2020 – 8:05 PM ET
Location: UFC Fight Island – Abu Dhabi, UAE
UFC Odds: McCann -115, Santos -105
First impressions are hard to shake, which is why many people aren’t big believers in McCann. She was choked out in her UFC debut back in 2018 and that’s stuck with people. However, she took more than a year off and returned in 2019 to win three straight decisions. She appears to be back on the right track. She’s ranked No. 15 in the women’s flyweight division and enters Wednesday’s card having won nine of her last 10 fights.
McCann is a fairly straightforward fighter. She’s never submitted anybody and only four of 10 wins are via knockout. She usually just stands in the pocket and delivers a lot of shots to collect points. She averages 5.3 significant strikes per minute. However, she tends to win decisions as she has just one knockout since the start of 2017. She’ll very likely be looking to win a technical fight here, which isn’t too surprising given the weight class (Flyweight).
Santos is 15-1 in her MMA career but what’s relevant here is the one loss – her latest bout and her UFC debut. She entered a perfect 15-0 but then lost to Mara Romero Borella at UFC on ESPN+ 2 back in February of 2019. The UFC tried to give her three fights in 2019 but each ended up canceled for various reasons but now she’s set to go against McCann.
It’s really hard to get a read on her as she does appear to have strong knockout power. 10 of her 15 wins were via knockout, which is quite impressive for the Flyweight Division. However, eight of her 15 wins have come against fighters who didn’t have a single win at the time they met. She hasn’t exactly fought top-notch competition.
Santos lost her first fight because she had no skills to get out of the clinch. However, McCann is going to be a willing partner to stand in front of her and trade. That could spell trouble for McCann if Santos, in fact, has the type of power we think she does. McCann has a strong chin and is slightly more polished, so this is a toss up, but given that Santos has a six-inch reach, she should be able to keep her distance, pick her spots and land some big shots on McCann to end her night.
