Veteran fighter Cerrone, who is jumping up from lightweight to take this fight, will tie Jim Miller for most fights in UFC history when he enters the Octagon on Saturday.  Both fighters have back-and-forth win-loss records so this should prove to be an entertaining fight that could go either way.

It seems like 37-year-old Cerrone (36-15) takes every fight opportunity presented to him, which hasn’t always worked out.  He comes into Saturday on a four-fight skid, including losses to Conor McGregor and Anthony Pettis in 2020.  Cerrone only managed to last 40 seconds against McGregor at UFC 246 in January before a TKO ended his night.  “Cowboy” was able to go the distance with Pettis at UFC 249 in May, but it ended in a unanimous decision loss.

Cerrone is an experienced fighter with the ability to come at opponents in many different ways.  He averages more significant strikes landed per minute than Price (Cerrone 4.33, Price 2.93), better striking accuracy (Cerrone 46 per cent, Price 32 per cent), better takedown accuracy (Cerrone 35 per cent, Price 28 per cent) and better takedown defense (Cerrone 73 per cent, Price 66 per cent).

This will be Cerrone’s second straight welterweight fight after he went the distance with Pettis in May.  That fight showed that Cerrone might actually be suited better for the heavier class and proves he is still a dangerous fighter.

The 30-year-old Price (14-5) has never gone to decision in his 11 UFC fights.  He is a dangerous fighter, but has never been able to sustain consistent results.  Price is coming off a TKO loss to Vincent Luque at UFC 249 in May and at 6-4 in the UFC he is not a title contender.

Price is going to avoid the ground game at all cost as he is a much better boxer than grappler, with 71 per cent of his wins coming by KO or TKO compared to 21 per cent by submission.  He doesn’t boast staggering numbers, but he has a three-inch reach advantage over Cerrone, a two-inch leg reach advantage and is the younger fighter.

If he can pull out a win in this fight, Price will have earned his shot against tougher opponents.  If he wants to start stringing together some victories and prove he is a welterweight danger, it all starts Saturday against Cowboy Cerrone.

This fight comes down to age and experience versus youth and size.  Cerrone seems to be on a steep decline in his career and a tough fight against a younger, stronger opponent likely won’t help him.  Expect a Price win via KO/TKO by the third round.
