Trevor Peek vs. Erick Gonzalez Preview: UFC Fight Night 220 Odds, Prediction
Peek looks like a fighter on the rise as he’s yet to lose in his MMA career. However, he’s making his UFC debut in this spot. Meanwhile, Gonzalez has yet to pick up a win in the UFC himself, which is why he’s a big underdog.
As of now the MMA odds have placed Trevor Peek as a -200 favourite.
Trevor Peek
Trevor Peek has had a flawless start to his fighting career up to this point. He’s appeared in seven fights and has won all of them. Even more impressive is the fact that he’s knocked out all of his opponents. Five of those knockouts came in the first round with the other two were in the second. Simply put, Peek has impressive knockout power and has never been in a fight that has gone further than a second round. However, some will raise concerns as to the caliber of his opponent as he’s never fully competed in the UFC. In fairness, though, he did get a win in the Dana White’s Contender Series by knocking out Malik Lewis in September of 2022.
Peek is a newcomer to the UFC and wants to make a very early impression after working his way up to this level with knockout after knockout. The mixed martial artist will try to earn his eighth knockout in eight fights in his fighting career. Originally scheduled against Alex Reyes, he’s now set to tussle with a fighter that has yet to win in the UFC.
Erick Gonzalez
Gonzalez steps up against Peek and on paper, the matchup doesn’t look favourable for him. The Ghost Pepper is just 14-7-0 in his MMA career, which is not great. Moreover, he’s lost his only two UFC bouts, not even making it to the third round in either of them as he was submitted in the first and knocked out in the second.
A big challenge for Gonzalez here is that he absorbs a lot of punishment. He’s taken a whopping 6.65 significant strikes per minute in his career with a defense rate of just 41%. Peek lands 7.09 per minute with high accuracy. That doesn’t seem like it will add up well for Gonzalez.
The one thing to note here is that Gonzalez does have some power in his fists. Eight of his 14 wins have come via knockout. Peek tends to come forward at any cost, so we’re likely to see some wild exchanges between the two. If you don’t like the idea of laying -200 or more with Peek, another option could be betting this fight not to go the distance. It would be surprising if this bout doesn’t end early.
Peek vs. Gonzalez Prediction:
Peek Via Knockout
