Sidney Outlaw vs. Tofiq Musayev: Bellator 283 Odds, Prediction
The co-main event of Friday night’s Bellator 283 card from Tacoma, Wash. will be tweaked after lightweight champion Patricky Pitbull’s withdrawal due to injury. Pitbull’s opponent, Sidney Outlaw, will now face former Rizin champion Tofiq Musayev in a three-round bout.
Musayev is a -160 favourite to win on the MMA odds, while Outlaw is a +125 underdog.
Sidney Outlaw Bellator 283 Odds
This has to be disappointing for Outlaw as he is not only missing a title shot, he could actually fall in the rankings if he loses. Currently ranked as the No. 1 lightweight contender, Outlaw is 16-4 in his professional MMA career and 3-1 since his promotional debut at Bellator 234 in November 2019.
“Da Gun” solidified a title shot with victories in his last two Bellator fights. He earned a close split decision win against Adam Piccolotti before submitting Myles Jury with a third-round rear-naked choke. Outlaw has been off since last October when he defeated Dylan Royce by unanimous decision in a one round grappling match for Fury Pro Grappling 2. The 30-year-old’s lone Bellator loss came against former three-time lightweight champion and current UFC star, Michael Chandler.
Outlaw stands five-foot-eight with a 74-inch reach. That reach helps him land big shots, but the danger is that he tends to leave himself open and vulnerable. Eight of Outlaw’s nine career finishes have come by submission, so this could be a fight where he throws a lot of heavy shots early in an effort to moves things to the ground.
Tofiq Musayev Bellator 283 Odds
You can’t say there’s too much of a competitive disadvantage when it comes to last minute opponent changes between these fighters as Musayev also originally had a different opponent. Musayev was due to fight Adam Piccolotti, who withdrew with an injury. It was the second time the 32-year-old’s Bellator debut was cancelled after Zach Zane pulled out of a fight that was scheduled for April.
Boasting an 18-4 professional MMA record, Musayev put together a five-fight win streak in the Japanese Rizin promotion, including an impressive unanimous decision win over current Bellator lightweight king, Patricky Pitbull. Musayev has been off since the middle of last year when he lost to submission artist Roberto de Souza via triangle choke in the first round.
There’s a lot of buzz in anticipation of Musayev’s debut and rightfully so. His striking is as powerful as Outlaw and he’s a beast on the ground. Musayev likes to switch his stance to open up opportunities for high kicks and big shots which has led to eight career wins via punches.
Bellator 283 Prediction: Sidney Outlaw vs. Tofiq Musayev
Musayev wins by second-round submission.
