Ryan Spann vs. Bogdan Guskov Prediction: UFC Vegas 91 Odds

Pegged as the No. 11 contender in the UFC light heavyweight division, Spann will enter the octagon looking to snap a two-fight losing streak, capped by a heartbreaking split decision loss to Anthony Smith last summer at UFC Singapore. Guskova returns to action after claiming his first victory in two UFC appearances by knocking out Zac Pauga just 3:38 into their fight.  

Spann is the betting favourite in Saturday’s matchup, pegged as -185 chalk on the UFC Vegas 91 odds. Guskova trails as a +150 underdog and the odds of this fight going a full three rounds are listed at a lengthy +550.

Winner in his first five fights after joining the UFC backing 2018, Ryan Pann has struggled to produce consistent results since, going 3-4 in his past seven tilts, with six of those contests getting settled inside five minutes including first-round submission losses to Nikita Krylov and Anthony Smith. However, Spann also claimed Performance of the Night bonuses after recording first-round finishes of Misha Cirkunov and Ion Cuțelaba. “Superman” also atoned for missing weight in his most recent victory at UFC 281, ending Dominick Reyes’ night after just 80 seconds in a KO win. While Spann has developed a reputation of ending things or getting ended early, he demonstrated his ability to absorb punishment in Singapore during his rematch with Anthony Smith, who outstruck Spann by a wide 91-59 margin.

Gushkov connected with strikes to the head early and often on his way to a first-round knockout win over Zac Pauga back in February. The 31-year-old Uzbekistan native has now seen each of his past seven fights get settled in the opening round, But while Guskov has demonstrated impressive striking power over that span, highlighted by a pair of devastating knockout wins in 30 seconds or less in his final two MMA Series fights, he has also been finished twice in the first round over that stretch. In addition to suffering a first-round KO loss to Vyacheslav Vasilevsky at AMC – Fight Nights Global: Winter Cup in December 202, he received a rude welcome to the UFC from Volkan Oezdemir, who tapped him out in the first round in his promotional debut at UFC Vegas 86.

While there is no doubting that Guskov is a fearsome striker, he lacks experience in lengthy clashes with top-flight opponents. “Czarevitch” is at his best when fighting on his feet, and will be at a disadvantage against Spann if he elects to change levels. There is little reason to expect this clash of bangers to go three rounds, with Spann’s UFC experience and wider skill set giving him the clear edge, and the potential to end things quickly.
