Max Holloway vs. The Korean Zombie: UFC Fight Night Odds, Prediction

The UFC stages a very good Fight Night Card from Singapore on Saturday morning Eastern time with the main event featuring an excellent featherweight matchup between ex-champion Max Holloway and Chan Sung Jung, otherwise knowns as the Korean Zombie. Holloway is the -660 favourite on the MMA odds with the Zombie at +430.

The 31-year-old Holloway, from Hawaii, is 24-7 in his professional MMA career and ranked as the No. 1 featherweight contender behind champion Alexander Volkanovski and the No. 11 pound-for-pound male fighter in the UFC.

“Blessed” was the youngest fighter in the entire UFC when he made his promotional debut as an injury replacement for Ricardo Lamas at UFC 143 in February 2012 against Dustin Poirier, who won via first-round submission. Holloway got his first featherweight title shot against legendary Jose Aldo in June 2017 and won by third-round KO (punches). He won the immediate rematch the same exact way and defended successfully one more time against Brian Ortega.

Holloway lost the belt in a rematch to Poirier in April 2019, got it back against Frankie Edgar but then lost back-to-back title fights to Volkanovski. Since those, Holloway is 3-1. That loss was in a trilogy title fight against Volkanovski in June 2022. Holloway comes off a unanimous decision win over Arnold Allen in April. Allen carried a 12-fight winning streak into that one. Holloway called for the fight against Jung after the victory.

Holloway has landed at least 100 significant strikes in 15 separate UFC fights. No other UFC fighter in history has more than eight. Finally, Holloway is the only fighter in UFC history to complete at least 27 octagon appearances without being knocked down. Six of his losses are by decision and one by submission.

The 36-year-old Jung is from South Korea and is 17-7 in a career dating to 2007. He is ranked No. 8 in the featherweight division. Jung’s Korean Zombie nickname comes from his “zombie-like” ability to continue to move forward and fight aggressively even if battered.

Jung has fought for two UFC titles in his career, losing to Jose Aldo in 2013 and last time out (April 2022) to current featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski by fourth-round TKO (punches). Jung was saved by the bell at the end of the third round as it was a lopsided fight. Before the fourth round began, Volkanovski could be seen asking his opponent: “Are you sure?” Jung is the only South Korean to compete for a UFC title. This will be his 10th consecutive UFC headline bout, and he is 5-4 in previous main events.

The 5-foot-7 Jung has a reach of 72 inches and his fights averages 12:29. He lands 3.97 significant strikes per minute with 42 per cent accuracy and absorbs 4.35 with 52 per cent defence. His takedown average is 0.74 per 15 minutes with 47 per cent accuracy, and his takedown defence is 72 per cent. Jung’s six stoppage victories in UFC featherweight competition are tied for third-most in divisional history. His opponent Max Holloway leads with 10. The Zombie is one of two featherweights in UFC/WEC combined history to earn multiple knockout wins in less than one minute.
