Lauren Murphy vs. Jessica Andrade: UFC 283 Odds, Prediction
The lone women’s bout on the main card of UFC 283 on Saturday night from Rio De Janeiro is a non-title flyweight fight between Lauren Murphy and Jessica Andrade. Murphy is +350 on the MMA odds with Andrade at -515. This fight should start around 10:30 p.m. ET.

Valentina Shevchenko is the women’s flyweight champion with the 39-year-old Murphy ranked No. 4. The Alaska native is 16-5 in her professional career dating to 2010. She only started martial arts in 2009:
“I took my son to a Jiu Jitsu class in late 2009, and I took the class with him to encourage him. I fell in love with it and started going all the time. I began training MMA about three months later, and took my first pro fight 3 months after that,” Murphy said.
“Lucky” is a former Invicta FC bantamweight champion. Her lone loss in her past seven bouts was fairly lopsided to Shevchenko via fourth-round TKO (elbows and punches) in September 2021 for the flyweight title. Murphy didn’t fight again for almost a year because of some scheduling issues and COVID. She returned to the Octagon last July and beat former UFC bantamweight champion Miesha Tate by unanimous decision in Tate’s flyweight debut. The judges scored it 30-27, 30-27 and 29-28.
“My fight with Valentina was a huge learning experience for me,” Murphy said. “That night didn’t go the way that I wanted but there were a lot of lessons I took away from it and I made it a point to learn something from that fight, and the things I learned resulted in one of the best performances of my life in my next fight and that’s the trajectory that I’m going to stay on.”
The 5-foot-5 Murphy has a reach of 67 inches and her fights average 14:33. She lands 3.84 significant strikes per minute with 40 per cent accuracy and absorbs 4.45 with 58 per cent defence. Murphy’s takedown average is 1.11 per 15 minutes with 34 per cent accuracy, and her takedown defence is 71 per cent.
Eight of her wins are by KO/TKO, seven by decision and one by submission. Four of Murphy’s five defeats are via the judges.
Jessica Andrade UFC 283 Odds
The 31-year-old Andrade is from Brazil – all five main bouts have a Brazilian — and ranked No. 6 in the division. She is 23-9 in a career dating to 2011.
“Bate Estaca” has fought for a UFC title four times. In May 2017, she lost to Joanna Jedrzejczyk at strawweight via unanimous decision. Two years later, she beat Rose Namajunas via second-round knockout for the strawweight title but lost her first defence by first-round TKO to Weili Zhang. Andrade got a shot at the current champion Shevchenko at flyweight in April 2021 and lost by second-round TKO (elbows).
Andrade is 2-0 since, coming off a first-round submission of Amanda Lemos in April 2022. She won that by standing arm-triangle choke, marking the first time that submission had been landed in UFC history. It was Andrade’s return to strawweight. She is tied with Namajunas and Lemos for the most finishes in strawweight history with five but is back at flyweight here.
“My coach figured out that was something that could work, and we worked on it and it worked on it, and once I locked it in, I said, ‘OK, I’ve just got to keep at it, and I’m going to catch it,” Andrade said after Lemos bout and unusual winning submission.
The 5-foot-1 Andrade has a reach of 62 inches and her fights average 9:31. She lands 6.16 significant strikes per minutes with 50 per cent accuracy and absorbs 5.16 with 53 per cent defence. Her takedown average is 2.85 per 15 minutes with 55 per cent accuracy, and her takedown defence 66 per cent.
Andrade has nine wins by KO/TKO, eight by submission and six by decision. She has at least two losses by each.
