“Lord Kong” is unbeaten in his past three fights but took a no contest in his most recent bout vs. Hamdy Abdelwahab in July 2022. Mayes lost the back-and-forth fight via split decision but it was later ruled a no contest after Abdelwahab was suspended by USADA for two years because of a positive test for anabolic agent methenolone and its metabolites. He also was flagged for a tampering violation.

Mayes has fought a lot of rather anonymous guys but did battle current No. 1 ranked heavyweight contender Ciryl Gane at UFC Fight Night 162 in October 2019 and lost by third-round submission (heel hook).
