The Yanks are -120 favourites on the MLB odds with a total of 8 runs.

Yankees vs. Blue Jays July 21 Betting Odds

This three-game set is very important in the AL East with Toronto leading by three games over New York, and the Blue Jays +135 to win the division and the Yankees -110. But it’s even a bit more important for the Blue Jays because getting a good result is important ahead of a very tough eight-game road trip to Detroit and Baltimore, where things could go badly south quickly.

After Wednesday’s series finale, these clubs have just three more regular-season games left against one another, coming at Yankee Stadium from Sept. 5-7. The first tiebreaker to win a division title is head-to-head record (no more Game 163) and Toronto leads 5-2. It swept four at Rogers Centre from June 30-July 3, taking the final three by multiple runs each. So if it wins two of three here, it wins the season series.

Addison Barger has destroyed Yankees pitching this year at 10-for-19 with four doubles, two homers and eight RBIs. George Springer is hitting .440 vs. New York pitching with four homers, 11 RBIs and eight runs scored. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is only 5-for-26 in the series with a homer and seven Ks. New York’s Aaron Judge, the -650 favorite to repeat as AL MVP, is 10-for-22 in the season series with two homers, four RBIs and nine walks. Rookie Jasson Dominguez is batting .440 in the series with three extra-base hits and five runs scored.

New York Yankees

New York lost its first game out of the break in Atlanta but then won the final two. Aaron Judge hit career homer No. 351 in Sunday’s win to tie Alex Rodriguez for sixth in franchise history. Next at fifth is Hall of Famer Yogi Berra at 358. No. 1 catcher Austin Wells didn’t start the finale but is healthy and should be in there Monday. Closer Devin Williams may not be available as he pitched both Saturday and Sunday. All-Star lefty Carlos Rodon (10-6, 3.08 ERA) takes the mound Monday. He was brilliant in his last start that counted on July 11 vs. the Cubs in a potential World Series preview with eight shutout innings and just four hits allowed in a victory over a season-high 109 pitches. Rodon did pitch a scoreless inning of relief for the AL in last Tuesday’s All-Star game in Atlanta. His lone start this year vs. the Blue Jays was June 30 at Rogers Centre, and Rodon took a no-decision in allowing two runs over five. Vladimir Guerrero has had great career success against him at 9-for-15 with three doubles and a homer. The Yankees are 2-6 in their past eight Monday games.

Toronto Blue Jays

The Blue Jays stayed red hot by rallying for an 8-6 win Sunday over San Francisco to sweep three at home vs. a good Giants team and tie a franchise record with a 10th home win in a row. The 1985 team also did it from July 21-Aug. 3. That streak began with a four-game series sweep of the Yankees from June 30 to July 3, overtaking New York for the AL East lead. Toronto’s home mark of 35-16 is the best in the majors, and since May 8 its overall mark of 42-21 is the best in MLB as Toronto leads in several major offensive categories in that span including batting average. Vladimir Guerrero homered Sunday for his first dinger since June 29 and just his third extra-base hit in July. Veteran righty Kevin Gausman (6-7, 4.19 ERA) takes the mound tonight. He’s 0-1 with a 4.02 ERA this month, which includes a home no-decision vs.  the Yankees on July 1 when he allowed two runs over five. In 37 career appearances vs. the Yanks, he’s 10-10 with a 3.87 ERA. Aaron Judge is a career .372 hitter off him with three doubles and six homers in 43 at-bats. The under is 4-8 in the Blue Jays’ past 12.
