Detroit Tigers vs. Atlanta Braves: Odds, Prediction

The Detroit Tigers and Atlanta Braves will begin a three-game series in Atlanta on Tuesday night.

In every aspect, the start of the season could not be going any better for the Braves. Not only are they 20-9, but both the Mets and Phillies have been total disasters at 9-19. That means Atlanta already owns a ridiculous 10.5-game lead over its biggest rivals in the National League East.

Detroit is 15-14, which is good for first place in the American League Central by a half-game over Cleveland.

These two interleague foes faced each other three times last season, when Atlanta paid a visit to Detroit in September and engineered a sweep. In fact, the Braves have won a whopping eight consecutive contests in this head-to-head matchup dating back to June of 2023.

Atlanta is a slim -120 favourite to win on the MLB odds, with the total set at 9.0.

Betting Analysis

Detroit has at least managed to cover a +1.5 runline three times during its eight-game losing streak against Atlanta. As for the over/under, the over is 6-4 in the last 10 meetings between these two teams after going 2-1 in 2025.

Meanwhile, Tigers are 14-15 on the run line in 2026 and the over/under is 15-12-2. The Braves are 19-10 on the run line and the over/under is 13-13-3 in their 29 contests.

Detroit Tigers

Tarik Skubal won’t take the mound until Wednesday, but Detroit still has a very good pitching option for the series opener. Casey Mize, the No. 1 overall draft pick in 2018, is starting for the visitors. Mize is 2-1 with a 2.51 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 32-to-10 strikeout-to-walk ratio through 28.2 innings of work this season. The right-hander has been borderline untouchable of late, with just two runs allowed across 18.1 innings over his past three appearances.

On the hitting front, heralded rookie Kevin McGonigle has been every bit as good as advertised. The 21-year-old shortstop comes in with a .330 batting average to go along with two home runs, 12 RBIs, 22 runs scored and two stolen bases. He also has more walks (16) than strikeouts (15).

Atlanta Braves

What’s especially scary for the rest of the league is that Atlanta is the best team in baseball even though its starting rotation is depleted and both Ronald Acuna Jr. and Austin Riley are off to slow starts. Acuna is batting .239 with only two home runs and eight RBIs; Riley is hitting .209 with three homers.

With Spencer Schwellenbach and Hurston Waldrep on injured reserve for an extended period of time and Spencer Strider out until later this week, the Braves have been forced to tinker with the back end of their rotation. Martin Perez is among the pitchers who have stepped into a role, and he will toe the rubber on Tuesday. Perez is 1-1 through five appearances (three starts) with a sparkling 2.70 ERA and 0.94 WHIP across 23.1 innings. The 35-year-old Venezuelan has given up only three runs in his last three outings, spanning 14.0 innings.

MLB Prediction: Who Will Win Tigers vs. Braves?

It’s hard to bet against the Braves these days. They are 14-4 in their last 18 games and have lost at home only once since April 13. They have not dropped a single series this entire season and have lost the opening game of a series just twice. Perez may not get much run support against Mize, but he might not need it given how well he is throwing the ball at the moment – and because he is backed by a bullpen that ranks fourth in MLB in ERA. Let’s go with the Braves to prevail 4-3.
