Rays Pitcher Shane McClanahan Could Miss Rest of 2023
Fans last saw the 26-year-old in New York against the Yankees on August 2. He left the game due to tightness felt in his left forearm. As per Tampa Bay Rays manager Kevin Cash, Shane McClanahan will have his left arm looked at by a specialist in the near future and is “unlikely” to pitch again in 2023.

Rays’ Shane McClanahan Unlikely to Play Remainder of 2023
The chase for a World Series title just got more difficult for the Tampa Bay Rays and Shane McClanahan’s 2023 just went from bad to worse. He already missed playing time in July when placed on a 15-day IL because of back pains. He now joins Jeffrey Springs, Drew Rasmussen, and Shane Baz as other pitchers in the rotation who are nursing injuries. The latter three are officially out for the rest of the 2023 campaign.
In Shane McClanahan’s case, he is seeking a second opinion, having already been evaluated by Dr. Neal ElAttrache, based in Los Angeles. He has a visit with Dr. Keith Meister scheduled for this coming Monday.
Prior to the injuries, McClanahan was having a terrific season, tallying an 11-2 record to go along with a 3.29 ERA. The lack of depth on the pitching staff partially explains why the Rays (69-46) have dropped from first in the AL East to second despite a historically great start to the season. They’re only two games behind the Baltimore Orioles but look like the second-best team these days.
Tampa Bay continues its series against the St. Louis Cardinals Wednesday.
