Like most teams around Major League Baseball, the Toronto Blue Jays were busy in the days and hours leading up to 6 p.m. on August 1, which was the league’s trade deadline cut-off. Did general manager Ross Atkins do enough to ensure that the Jays can make a deep postseason run?

Evaluating the Blue Jays’ Trade Deadline Moves
As astutely mentioned by co-host David Bastl, the Blue Jays have been calling the St. Louis Cardinals a lot over the past few weeks. No fewer than three players from St. Louis are now wearing Blue Jays colours today: pitchers Genesis Cabrera and Jordan Hicks, and shortstop Paul DeJong.
This prompts the obvious question. Have the Blue Jays done enough to bolster their roster and contend? Gibbons shares his thoughts.
“I like everything they did, to tell you the truth. It goes back to when they originally got Cabrera. Then Hicks comes along who was probably the number one bullpen target for everybody.”
By the same token, given the unfortunate injury Bo Bichette suffered on Monday night, Gibbons acknowledges that management was most likely forced into dealing for DeJong. With less than 24 hours to go before the trading deadline and the status of their superstar’s injury unclear, the club did what it felt was the best move under the circumstances.
“Bo will be back in there when he’s ready if it turns out to be not that big a deal. DeJong would become a good utility player.”
