Arizona Diamondbacks
The Diamondbacks are coming off a disappointing 80-82 campaign. They were among the biggest sellers at the 2025 trade deadline, but got hot down the stretch before fizzling out again in the last 10 games and narrowly missing out on a Wild Card spot.
The roster team largely looks the same as last year, reuniting with Merril Kelly after dealing him to the Rangers last deadline. Ketel Marte, Corbin Carroll and Geraldo Perdomo still headline the position players, while veterans Nolan Arenado and Carlos Santana were brought in this offseason as well.
Despite undergoing surgery for a broken hammate bone on February 11, the Diamondbacks’ young superstar outfielder Corbin Carroll is set to go for Opening Day. The former Rookie of the Year and two-time All-Star is just 25 years old and displays both power and speed, making him one of the best two-way outfielders in the game.
Lourdes Gurriel Jr. will not be available for the first few weeks of the season. He consistently brings 20 home runs and at least 75 RBI to the table, but he won’t be missed in his first matchup, going 1-for-11 in his career vs. Yamamoto.
Los Angeles Dodgers
The Dodgers are coming off their second consecutive World Series victory, and it was one of the best World Series we have ever seen, going seven games in Toronto with an unbelievable Game 7 finish.
The Dodgers not only returned a ridiculous amount, but they also upped the ante, as they typically do, adding massive free agent outfielder Kyle Tucker and closer Edwin Diaz. With these additions, the Dodgers shored up the weak link areas of their 2025 championship team.
Yamamoto was on a god-tier level in the postseason, pitching to a 1.45 ERA and 0.78 WHIP in 37.1 postseason innings, including closing out Game 7 despite starting Game 6 the night before.
I am curious to see how Yamamoto comes out in 2026 after a prolonged and taxing 2025.
MLB Prediction: Who Will Win Diamondbacks vs. Dodgers?
Zac Gallen had his worst season as a full-time starter with the Diamondbacks last year, but it’s good to see him return after trade rumours swirled all offseason. Gallen was flat-out awesome from 2022-2024, and I smell a big bounce-back season for him in 2026. He was also still really great against the Dodgers last year, pitching to a 3.09 ERA.
The Diamondbacks have long been a thorn in the Dodgers side under manager Torey Lovello. I think most people see this matchup and auto-pick the Dodgers at home on Opening Day. Not so fast, at least from a betting perspective. The value here lies in the Diamondbacks +1.5 (-102). They can cash this bet even with a tight loss. Yes, this game has potential for an explosion of runs, but Opening Day tends to be tightly contested.
