Betting Analysis

The Brewers are a well-run franchise that had reached the postseason four years before missing out last year despite 86 wins – one victory behind Philadelphia for the NL’s last Wild CVard spot. Milwaukee is back atop the NL Central this season but probably not a major threat to win the pennant as currently constructed. The team is built around an excellent rotation, led by former Cy Young winner Corbin Burnes, but three of the five guys are on the injured list.

These teams played one series last year, in Milwaukee, and the Brewers won two of three. Former NL MVP Christian Yelich hit .364 in the series with three RBIs. Former Blue Jay Rowdy Tellez went yard twice against his former team. Alejandro Kirk was 6-for-10 for Toronto with two homers and five RBIs. Matt Chapman hit .364 with a homer and four knocked in.

It’s the Brewers’ first visit to Toronto since April 2017.

Milwaukee Brewers

Shortstop Willy Adames is on the concussion IL. Third baseman Luis Urias injured his hamstring on Opening Day and hasn’t played in the majors since but is getting close. On Monday, first baseman/DH Luke Voit was activated from the injured list but then designated for assignment. Infielder and sometimes leadoff hitter Owen Miller left Sunday’s 7-5 win over the Giants but X-rays were negative.

The Brewers ended a three-game skid with Sunday’s victory and turn to 30-year-old right-hander Adrian Houser (1-0, 2.25) here. He hasn’t allowed a run over his past two starts spanning 11.1 innings. Opponents are batting .154 (6-for-39) off him in that span. Houser has allowed five runs in six career innings vs. the Blue Jays. Alejandro Kirk is 3-for-3 off him. The Brewers are 3-9 in their past 12 road games.

Toronto Blue Jays

Toronto won at Minnesota 3-0 on Sunday to win two of three in that series. Centre fielder Kevin Kiermaier was on the bench after being removed from the game on Saturday with discomfort in his right lower back but says he should be fine. Monday was the team’s first day off following 17 games in 17 days.

It’s lefty Yusei Kikuchi (5-2, 4.56) on the mound Tuesday. He has been terrible this month for the most part with a 6.29  ERA in five starts. He allowed five runs over five innings in a loss last time out at Tampa Bay. Kikuchi’s lone career start vs. the Brewers was in Milwaukee last year, and he allowed five runs in two innings (two earned). Over 15 career games vs. NL opponents, Kikuchi is 2-5 with a 5.35 ERA. The Brewers’ Mike Brosseau is 1-for-2 with a solo homer off him. The Blue Jays are 20-6 in their past 26 at home vs. the National League.
