Superstar shortstop Bo Bichette has been on a 10-day injured list since August 10. If all goes well, he should be available to play on or shortly after August 20, this coming Sunday. This revives a conversation John Gibbons and David Bastl had on a previous edition of Pitch Clock about tinkering with the Blue Jays’ batting order.

The Blue Jays’ Batting Order with When Bichette is Back

Given how Toronto’s bats have been asleep in recent games, Bo Bichette’s return to the lineup can’t come soon enough. His time on the 10-day injured list is concluding soon, prompting David Bastl to ask former head coach John Gibbons where Bichette fits in the batting order. Bastl likes Bichette in the third slot. What says Gibby?

“(chuckles) Well you’re always right! If I had my choice I’d put George Springer back in the leadoff spot with Whit (Merrifield) behind him. Whit shoots the whole field. Springer is primarily a pull hitter. Mostly singles and doubles. Whit can then chase him around”

John Gibbons agrees that, ideally, Bichette should go into the number three slot. He would be followed by Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

But wait! There’s more!

Given Bastl’s astute analysis and predictions of what the Blue Jays do, Gibby tosses the same question back to his co-host. Bastl regales his co-host.

“You know what, I love the idea of returning Springer to the leadoff spot. Whit has to be at number two. I do like Bo in the third spot and Vladdy to clean up.”

As the old expression goes, great minds think alike.
