Toronto Blue Jays vs. Baltimore Orioles: Odds, Prediction
It’s back out on the road for the Blue Jays starting Tuesday as they open a three-game set at AL East contender Baltimore and eyeing some payback for an earlier sweep. Toronto is a -130 favourite on the MLB odds.
Betting Analysis
Sometimes it can be a bit hard for MLB teams to find motivation the 162-game slog, especially at the start of a long road trip like Monday’s game will be. However, the Jays no doubt fully remember being swept three games at home by the Orioles from May 19-21 – the final two games both went to extra innings and Yimi Garcia lost them both.
It was Baltimore’s first three-game sweep in Toronto since April 2005, and the Orioles hadn’t swept an AL East opponent in a three-game series since doing it at Boston in early April 2021. Cedric Mullins had a big series for the Orioles at .467 (7-for-15) with three doubles, a homer and four RBIs. Adam Frazier was 6-for-13 with four runs, a triple and homer. George Springer was 6-for-13 for the Jays with a double, homer and there runs. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Matt Chapman combined for one hit in 25 at-bats with 10 strikeouts.
Toronto was 5-4 at Camden Yards last year.
Toronto Blue Jays
Toronto avoided a home sweep at the hands of the Twins with a 7-6 comeback win Sunday – the Jays trailed by as many as five. It was their 16th comeback win of the season and the team is 11-6 in one-run games this year. Neither first baseman/DH Brandon Belt nor OF Kevin Kiermaier started due to minor injuries, but Kiermaier came on as a pinch runner in the eighth. They could both by fine by Tuesday with Monday off. Chris Bassitt (7-4, 3.29 ERA) takes the mound as he pushes for a possible All-Star spot. The right-hander was terrific last time out in beating Houston, allowing two runs over eight. Bassitt hasn’t walked a batter in 15.2 innings this month and missed the Orioles earlier this year. He is 3-0 with a 2.36 ERA career against them in 26.2 innings, last facing in 2021 while with Oakland. The Jays are 4-0 in their past five road games.
Baltimore Orioles
Baltimore enters on a four-game winning streak, its third winning streak of at least four games this season, and is 22-5 (.815) when scoring first this season, the third-best winning percentage in MLB. Young infielder Gunnar Henderson is red hot this month and enters with three straight multi-hit games. Outfielder Cedric Mullins, one of the most underrated players in the AL, is on the injured list and first baseman Ryan Mountcastle didn’t start the past few due to an illness. Right-hander Dean Kremer (6-3, 4.89 ERA) takes the mound. He was roughed up last time out in Milwaukee, allowing six runs in five innings. Kremer took a no-decision on May 21 at Rogers Centre, giving up one run and nine hits over 5.1 innings and is 1-3 with a 5.22 ERA in 39.2 career innings against the Blue Jays. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is 6-for-19 off him with four homers. The Orioles are 7-1 in their past eight vs. the AL East.
