Jays vs. Dodgers July 24 Betting Analysis
If the Blue Jays make it to the World Series, there’s a very decent chance their opponent there will be the Dodgers. Yes, they can outspend almost every franchise in MLB other than the Mets or Yankees, but LA has made the playoffs 10 straight seasons (albeit just one World Series title). Neither New York team has had anything close to that kind of success of late. Money is great, but a team still has to be well run from the front office and the Dodgers are at the top of that list.
LA will be a playoff team yet again, although Arizona is pushing the Dodgers in the NL West. The Dodgers and Blue Jays reportedly are eyeing some of the same guys ahead of the Aug. 1 Trade Deadline – perhaps most specifically Cubs (and one-time Blue Jays) pitcher Marcus Stroman.
The Dodgers lead the all-time interleague series 14-7. The teams last played in 2019, and LA swept three at home. The Dodgers don’t visit Toronto this regular season.
Toronto Blue Jays
Toronto started this trip losing its first two games in Seattle but avoided the sweep with a 4-3 victory on Sunday. Closer Jordan Romano worked out of a ninth-inning jam for the save but also pitched Friday so he may not be available here. The Jays blew late leads in losses on both Friday and Saturday. Catcher Danny Jansen left Sunday with a forearm contusion. Reliever Nate Pearson was sent down to Triple-A after the team acquired left-hander Genesis Cabrera from the Cardinals via trade. Jose Berrios (8-7, 3.39 ERA) starts on the mound Monday. He’s back in a groove, allowing just three earned over his past three spanning 18.1 innings. On the road, he’s 4-4 with a 3.84 ERA. Berrios’ lone outing vs. the Dodgers came in 2017 while with Minnesota when he allowed four runs over four innings. Mookie Betts is 7-for-16 off him with two homers.
Los Angeles Dodgers
The Dodgers scored 27 runs in winning their first two games over the weekend at AL West-leading Texas but played without All-Star DH JD Martinez (left hamstring tightness) on Sunday and lost 8-4. Max Muncy hit first-inning grand slam in the defeat for LA. It was his third slam of the season, tying the LA club record. The Dodgers finished 6-3 on their nine-game trip overall. Martinez is not expected to play Monday, either, which is a break for the Jays as he’s batting .263 with 24 homers and 73 RBIs. It’s rookie right-hander Michael Grove (2-2, 6.40) on the mound. He has been better in July at 2-1 with a 3.60 ERA in three starts but also has gotten great run support. Grove has never faced the Jays. Daulton Varsho saw him in 2022 while with Arizona and was 3-for-5 with two homers off Grove.
