It’s been a loopy week for the Toronto Blue Jays. From cold turkey against the Texas Rangers to a weekend sweep of the Boston Red Sox. Tuesday night saw the club crush the Yankees in the Bronx. Suffice it to say, these Jays are unpredictable. To rectify that, the bats need to heat up. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. seems to have come alive at the plate, but who else needs to up their batting game?

George Springer and Whit Merrifield Need to Get Going

Vladdy Jr. had a solid weekend series against Boston, hitting 5-for-11 and bringing in four runs, including two HRs. Bo Bichette has been a constant all season given his stellar .304 average at the plate.

But the Toronto Blue Jays can’t rely on those two alone to keep their playoff push going. David Bastl pries former Blue Jays manager John Gibbons for his assessment as to who needs to start making contact more often at the plate given this critical juncture in the 2023 season.

“You’re big guys have to get going. That’s why they’re here. That’s why they get the big bucks. (George) Springer is swinging it well now…These guys at the top of the lineup, they’re heating up at the right time.”

“Gibby” has positive comments regarding Whit Merrifield, who played hero over the weekend versus the Red Sox.

“He’s a catalyst. He makes things happen. He was scuffling there for a little bit, but he got that big walk-off hit the other day. That’s what’s so good about him. He can put the ball into play and he can run and make things happen. That’s how you win.”

The Toronto Blue Jays continue their series in New York against the Yankees on Wednesday night.
