Bo Bichette
After Toronto’s 4-3 win over the Mariners on Monday night, Blue Jays star shortstop Bo Bichette was asked about taking the field for Game 1 of the World Series, which is set for Friday at Rogers Centre.
“I’ll be ready,” Bichette said.
Bichette hasn’t played since suffering a PCL injury in his right knee on Sept. 6. The 27-year-old missed the remainder of the regular season and he was left off both the ALDS and ALCS rosters.
Bichette was running the bases ahead of the ALCS opener, but reportedly pulled up while rounding second base and walked off the field in discomfort.
Fast forward to earlier Monday ahead of Game 7 of the ALCS and Blue Jays manager John Schneider said Bichette made “significant progress” in his recovery.
“Progress is just kind of just where he feels with his swing and how much more comfortable he feels kind of letting it rip,” said Schneider to reporters.
Even if Bichette is used as a designated hitter and doesn’t field, it’s a big boost to Toronto’s lineup. The Orlando native was having a solid bounce-back year before the injury, slashing .311/.357/.483 with 18 home runs and 94 RBIs.
Bichette also led the majors with 181 hits at the time of his injury and finished the year tied for second in hits and second in doubles (44) despite missing the final 20 games of the regular season.
