Blue Jays Acquire Paul DeJong from St. Louis Cardinals
It’s been a wild 24 hours for the Blue Jays and they aren’t out of the woods yet. Monday night saw them drop the first of four games to the Baltimore Orioles 4-2. In the process, they saw their superstar Bo Bichette limp off the field with an apparent right knee injury. Since then, they have acquired shortstop Paul DeJong from the St. Louis Cardinals, marking the third time in three weeks the two sides do business.

Cardinals’ Paul DeJong Joins Blue Jays
Toronto is supplying the St. Louis Cardinals with pitching prospect Matt Svanson, a 24-year-old. The Jays also get cash considerations.
At the time of writing, the 6 p.m. August 1 MLB trade deadline is mere hours away. One reckons the Blue Jays worked on this trade fast given that Bo Bichette’s injury occurred less than 24 hours ago. It may have also helped that Toronto and St. Louis had worked on two separate deals recently which saw the Ontario-based side welcome pitchers Genesis Cabrera and Jordan Hicks.
Paul DeJong has played seven seasons with the Cardinals. He was voted to the 2019 MLB All-Star Game. This season, in 81 games and 279 attempts at the plate the Floridian is hitting .233 with 13 home runs and 32 RBIs.
The Blue Jays continue their quartet of dates with the Orioles on Tuesday evening at Rogers Centre.
As of 2:30, Tuesday afternoon, the status of Bo Bichette’s injury has not been disclosed to the public.
