Angels’ Urshela Injury to Keep Him Out for Season

The event took place on June 15 in a match versus the Texas Rangers. Urshela’s slide into first base was awkward and he has been in severe discomfort ever since. In fact his pelvis suffered a fracture in the process.

Now ESPN reports that the odds of him returning to the lineup in 2023 are slim to none. The Angels had acquired him from the Minnesota Twins in the offseason. His stats were strong prior to the devastating injury. In 62 games he had hit for .299 with a .329 slugging percentage. Furthermore, L.A. had used him in a number of positions, most notably as a third and first baseman. His versatility and productivity will be missed.

Prior to Thursday’s action, the Angels are 41-35, good for third in the AL West. They most recently got swept in a quick two-game set versus the neighbouring Dodgers, losing 2-0 both times. Shohei Ohtani was good, striking out 12, but not good enough and the Angel bats were once again ice cold.

L.A. heads to Colorado for a weekend series against the Rockies.
