2026 World Baseball Classic: Canada vs. Colombia

Canada has the second-shortest odds to win Group A as they prepare to open the 2026 World Baseball Classic against Colombia on Saturday.

Opening pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m. ET, with the Canadians favoured to win on the WBC odds.

Canada vs. Colombia WBC Betting Odds

This game shapes up well for Canada as it will be their first of the tournament, while Colombia plays Puerto Rico on Friday night. That give Canada a huge advantage when it comes to fresh arms on the mound.

Canada opens as a +6600 long shot to win the tournament on the WBC futures board. Your best bet is likely to take Canada to win Group A as they have the second-shortest odds at +300. The top two teams from each group will advance to the knockout stage, something Canada has never done.

Colombia is an even bigger long shot to win the tournament at +10,000. They also have the third-shortest odds to win the group at +600.

If you’re looking for player props, I’ll cheat a bit and take Blue Jays and Dominican Republic slugger Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (hey, at least he was born in Montreal) to win tournament MVP. Guerrero was absolutely clutch for the Jays during last year’s run to the World Series and the Dominican Republic has a shot to win this tournament. If they do, Guerrero will be at the forefront.

Canada

Canada’s biggest star is easily Seattle Mariners first baseman Josh Naylor. He possesses an ability to put the ball in play, he hits for power and he’s great at stealing bases. Hitting will be key for Canada as they have the best lineup in Group A, with major leaguers batting one through nine, led by Naylor and Tyler O’Neill.

Winning the pitching battle will be tougher for Canada, although they have a nice starting trio in Jameson Taillon, Michael Soroka and Cal Quantrill. However, Rob Zastryzny is the only reliever to make an appearance in the majors last season.

Colombia

Seattle Mariners top prospect Michael Arroyo is likely Colombia’s best offensive weapon. The 21-year-old second baseman, ranked as the 62nd-best MLB prospect, hit 17 home runs and stole 12 bases in High-A and Double-A last season. Arroyo provides a nice blend of power and contact and he’ll be key to Colombia having a chance to advantage to the knockout stage.

The player who can make the biggest individual impact for the team in this tournament, however, is Jose Quintana of the Colorado Rockies, widely regarded as the best Colombian pitcher of all time. At 37, Quintana isn’t in his prime, but he’s Colombia’s only shot at offsetting a weak offence.
