George Springer

Springer left Game 3 in the seventh inning. He was in noticeable pain after fouling off the first pitch he saw from Dodgers reliever Justin Wrobleski. Toronto’s medical staff helped Springer off the field and he left through the Blue Jays dugout.

“George, it’s some right side discomfort,” Blue Jays manager John Schneider said after Toronto’s 6-5, 18-inning marathon loss. “He already went for a MRI. We’ll see how it comes back and see how he wakes up (Tuesday), but it sucks.”

Overall, it wasn’t a great outing from Springer, who was hitless with two strikeouts in his first three at-bat in Game 3 as Dodgers fans loudly booed him at the plate.

For context, Springer was named World Series MVP as a member of the Astros when Houston beat the Dodgers in a seven-game Fall Classic in 2017. The series is best remebered for Houston’s sign stealing activity.

It’s a big blow for Toronto if Springer can’t go on Tuesday. He is 14-for-57 (.246) with four home runs and nine RBIs in the postseason. Springer’s three-run homer in Game 7 of the ALCS pushed the Blue Jays past Seattle to reach the World Series for the first time since 1993.

Ty France replaced Springer on Monday. France started with an 0-1 count before striking out in eight pitches. Springer, France and Davis Schneider combined to go 2-for-9 with three strikeouts in the leadoff spot.

Springer had three hits during the first two games of the World Series in Toronto.

The Blue Jays are listed as +180 Game 4 underdogs and +375 series underdogs. The Dodgers are -220 Game 4 favourites and heavy -500 series favourites.
