Wyndham Championship: PGA Tour Golf Picks, Predictions, and Tee Times
The tournament field features just one of the top 20-ranked golfers in the world, yet there is no shortage of golfers seeking to crack the top 70 in the FedExCup standings and earn a playoff spot.
That sense of urgency has generated some intriguing value further down the Wyndham Championship odds board ahead of Thursday morning’s tee-off at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, North Carolina.
Roller Coaster Ride Continues for Adam Hadwin
It is tough to determine which version of Adam Hadwin will show up this weekend in North Carolina. The 35-year-old Canadian has endured a rocky season highlighted by second-place performances at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans and the Rocket Mortgage Classic. However, Hadwin has missed the cut in his past two PGA Tour appearances including last weekend’s 3M Open.
Hadwin’s uneven results diminish his value as a +4000 bet, and his struggles on the green in his past two outings are cause for concern. However, the Moose Jaw native enjoyed a 10th-place finish in his last appearance at the Wyndham Championship three years ago. He should also be highly motivated to halt his slide to 39th on the FedExCup standings.
The course at Sedgefield should provide a benefit to Hadwin in his bid to improve on his recent efforts to find the fairway. And while he is a risky pick as a +479 to crack the top ten, he offers solid value as a +225 chalk to outpace struggling rivals like Adam Svensson and Taylor Pendrith and claim top Canadian honours.
Poston Peaking at Right Time
JT Poston has resurrected a seemingly lost season with top ten finishes in three of his past four outings, capped by a T2 last weekend at the 3M Open. The 30-year-old has shot rounds of 66 or lower on seven occasions over his past seven tournament appearances, and is definitely in the zone as he arrivers at Sedgefield in search of his second career Wyndham Championship victory.
Indeed, confidence is not a problem for Poston, who boldly targeted the pin with a risky shot in a late final-round comeback attempt last weekend. The bid fell short, and ultimately cost Poston $260,000 in prize money as he was forced to finish with a share of second place.
Expect more aggressive play this weekend from Poston, who is an intriguing +2200 to claim the win and a high-value +800 bet to crack the top five.
Garrick Higgo Showing Steady Improvement
Last week we raved about the steady progress Garrick Higgo has shown in his third season on the PGA Tour, and while he fell just short of paying out on our pick to finish in the top ten ath 3M Open, the talented young South African did not wilt, hitting a final round 66 to claim ashare of 13th.
Overall, Higgo has finished no worse than 21st in his past three outings, bring his top 25 season total to six, and has shout under 70 in 10 of his past 12 rounds. The 24-year-old’s late-season surge has lifted him to 72nd on the FedExCup standings and clearly within striking distance of a spot among the top 70 and a playoff berth.
Currently ranked 19th in strokes gained off the tee, Higgo has been hit and miss on the green, and sits outside the top 100 in most putting categories. However, if he maintain his steady performance off the tee, he is poised to take another step forward among a generally weak field, and is worth backing as an +800 bet to return to the top ten.
Picks: Adam Hadwin top Canadian (+225); Garrick Higgo top ten (+800); JT Poston top five (+800)
