Tiger vs. Phil Odds: Woods, Manning vs. Mickelson, Brady Prediction
People in all walks of life around the world are very eager for sports to begin again in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. No major North American league is likely to get going anytime soon, but Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Tom Brady and Peyton Manning are coming to the rescue – and for a good cause, too.
Woods will pair with Manning in a 2-on-2 match against Mickelson and Brady in a televised event in May with all proceeds going to COVID-19 relief. Early golf odds have Woods and Manning as the -222 favourite with Mickelson and Brady at +160 in an event that’s being called The Match: Champions for Charity.
Golf Odds for The Match: Champions for Charity
The Match: Tiger vs. Phil was played on Nov. 23, 2008, at Shadow Creek Golf Course in Las Vegas between Woods and Mickelson. It was purely a made-for-TV event, scheduled to be shown on pay-per-view and to cost U.S. viewers $19.99. The winner of the 18-hole match play was to get the $9 million purse, but the players were also allowed to have side wagers. The long-time rivals were tied after 18 holes and Mickelson won the $9 million on the 22nd hole. Unfortunately, the golf itself was rather sloppy – just 10 combined birdies – and technical issues were a mess on pay-per-view so it was eventually shown/streamed for free.
Mickelson recently hinted on Twitter that he was “working” on a rematch to benefit charity. Details are scarce right now, but The Match: Champions for Charity has been confirmed for sometime in May and will be aired by TNT. No location for the event has been announced.
The event makes a lot of sense given our coronavirus restrictions. It would be easy for the two/four players (who surely would each be pre-tested for the coronavirus) to obey social distancing recommendations and there would be no fans allowed on the course. A small production crew would be needed for TV purposes and that’s it.
Leading up to the event, expect to see a bunch of betting options. Right now Tiger is a slight -125 favourite to have more birdies than Mickelson (-111), and odds that the match will go to the 18th hole are at -125. If you want to bet that the match will need a playoff, yes is at +333. Odds of someone shooting a hole-in-one are +900.
Woods, Manning vs. Mickelson, Brady Prediction
No doubt this is going to be a fun event, but it’s hard to put any kind of educated guess as to how it’s going to play out just yet. This seems like an event that a healthy Tiger Woods would be all over though. You have to think Manning has had more time on the golf course than Brady, too. Take Woods and Manning to win for now and keep an eye out for more prop betting options on the golf odds page as the event nears.
