Recovering from Rory: Golf Betting at the Travelers Championship!
After the epic scenes at Congressional, Frank Doyle tries to pick his fifth winner of the year at this weekend’s Travelers Championship at River Highlands, Connecticut.
The TPC at River Highlands, home of the Travelers Championship, is one of the shorter courses on tour and it’s a course that’s usually won by someone who catches fire over the weekend. Bubba Watson shot -14 to win last year, Kenny Perry -22 in 2009, Stewart Cink -18 in 2008.
Although short, the greens are hilly so the men to look out for are those guys who can get it close to the pin and putt with a steady hand when the ball won’t be taking the direct route.
Driving distance doesn’t matter as much, so this is a good golf betting opportunity to make money on the good putters who don’t generally challenge for wins because they’re short off the tee. With that in mind, here are Sports Interaction’s
Fore! to Follow
Brandt Snedeker (+2500). Five top ten finishes this year, a win at the Heritage on a final round 64, third on tour in putting. He’ll be there or thereabouts.
Ian Poulter (+4000). Bubba Watson is one point higher than the Englishman in the world rankings and Nick Watney is one below, but the big price on Poulter in comparison to the other two makes the World No 14 a good bet for River Highlands.
Kevin Na (+6600). Kevin Na is one of the best putters on tour. He doesn’t win tournaments because his driving is weak for the modern game. On a short course like TPC River Highlands, he’s worth a look at the price.
Greg Chalmers (+11000). Huge price on the PGA putting leader. Again, the relatively short length of the course can allow Chalmers to compensate his short driving distance with his considerable putting skills.
