PGA Tour Rocket Mortgage Classic: Golf Odds and Predictions
Rocket Mortgage Classic History, Dates and Location
The PGA Tour made a handful of changes to its schedule for this season and one of those was the introduction and elimination of a couple of tournaments. That’s where the Rocket Mortgage Classic comes in as it essentially has taken the place of the former Quicken Loans National, which had been played outside Washington, D.C., since 2014.
While there are a few world-class courses near Detroit – Oakland Hills in Bloomfield Hills has hosted the U.S. Open a handful of times – this is the first PGA Tour event in the city proper. It’s the first PGA Tour event in Michigan since the 2009 Buick Open in Grand Blanc.
Needless to say, it’s a lot tougher handicapping a new tournament because there’s no course history for the players. Detroit Golf Club’s North Course, which opened in 1916, is a par 72 measuring around 7,330 yards. The tournament takes place June 25-30.
Rocket Mortgage Classic Betting Favourites
At No. 2 in the world, Dustin Johnson is the highest-ranked player in the field and also the +600 favourite at Sports Interaction. Like several big-name players, he took last week off following the U.S. Open, where Johnson was T35 with a final score of 1-over 285.
Big-hitting Gary Woodland (+1200) won the U.S. Open for his first major championship. Rickie Fowler is also +1200. He was 43rd at the U.S. Open, his fourth straight tournament outside the Top 10 this year. Hideki Matsuyama is +1400 and Chez Reavie +2500 as he looks to go back-to-back. Reavie won the Travelers Championship outside Hartford on Sunday, his second career PGA Tour win and first since 2008. Reavie also contended at the U.S. Open with a tie for third.
Canadian Golfer Odds
The top-ranked Canadian on the PGA Tour, No. 74 Adam Hadwin, is off this week. Mackenzie Hughes is priced at +9000 with Corey Conners +10000, Nick Taylor +15000, Ben Silverman +20000, and Roger Sloan and Adam Svensson both +30000. Hughes was 51st last week. Conners hasn’t played since missing the cut at the Canadian Open. Silverman and Svensson both missed the cut last week.
Rocket Mortgage Classic Winner Prediction
Take Fowler and Johnson for Top 10 finishes, but the winner is Matsuyama. He hasn’t missed a cut all season or been worse than T21 in his past three tournaments.
