3M Open History, Location and Dates

The PGA Tour staged its first-ever tournament in Detroit last week, returning to Michigan for the first time in 10 years. This week it’s another newbie on the revamped 2018-19 schedule, the 3M Open at TPC Twin Cities in Blaine, Minnesota – a suburb of Minneapolis. This tournament has a seven-year schedule with the Tour.

This is the first Tour event in the Land of 10,000 Lakes since the last Minnesota Golf Classic in 1969. That said, a Champions Tour event called the 3M Championship had been held in this area since 1993, including at TPC Twin Cities from 2001-2018. The course, designed by Arnold Palmer with assistance from current Champions Tour member and Minnesota native Tom Lehman, has been upgraded and lengthened to around 7,470 yards and will play to a par 71. Lehman is playing this week on a sponsor exemption.

The 3M Open will take place from July 4tj to July 7th, 2019.

While this is the first Tour event in the state in decades, nearby Hazeltine Golf Club in Chaska hosted the PGA Championship in 2002 & ’09, the U.S. Open in 1970 & ’91 and the 2016 Ryder Cup. It will become the first U.S. course to host a second Ryder Cup in 2028.

3M Open Betting Favourites

It’s two weeks before the British Open so some guys will use this as their final tune-up event before the year’s final major, while some guys are already over in the United Kingdom practicing (Tiger Woods) or playing this week on the European Tour. Thus, only six players for the 3M Open are ranked in the Top 30 in the world.

No. 1 Brooks Koepka is to no surprise the +700 favourite at Sports Interaction. That guy is a monster in major tournaments but hasn’t played all that well of late in regular tournaments. He was 57th last time out in Hartford at the Travelers Championship. Jason Day is +1000. He has six Top-10 finishes this season but yet to win. He was T8 two weeks ago in Hartford. Hideki Matsuyama (+1200) was our pick to win last week in Detroit but finished tied for 13th. Bryson DeChambeau (+1400) comes off a T8 two weeks ago.

Canadian Golfer Odds

The top-ranked Canadian player, Adam Hadwin, is back in action this week and is +6000. He last played in Hartford and missed the cut. Mackenzie Hughes is +9000 (T21 last week), Corey Conners +11100, Nick Taylor +14000, Roger Sloan +20000, David Hearn +20000, Ben Silverman +25000 and Adam Svensson +40000.

3M Open Predictions

Somewhat flying blind here, but we like Joaquin Niemann at +2800 because he has been T5 the past two weeks on Tour.
